Hyundai Ioniq 5 to Have AWD, Dual Motor, Solar Roof & Up to 550 km Range (WLTP)

We have access to some specifications of Hyundai’s All-New Ioniq 5 thanks to Austrian subsidiary who have published the first details after started accepting reservations for the Ioniq 5 First Edition, limited to 150 units.

The Ioniq 5 First Edition has a dual motor specification and a maximum output of 313 horsepower. When fully charged, the maximum range is 450km (280 miles) based on 58kWh battery and under WLTP homologation. The reservation could be placed from December 18th to January 31st.

By the 2nd of February, Hyundai will allow to choose the colour and then customers will have time till February 16th to place the order. Vehicles will arrive by June/July 2021. The down payment is 1,000€ ($1,224). Ioniq 5 will be built using recently announced Hyundai Motor Group’s modular electric vehicle platform or E-GMP.

The Ionic 5 First Edition is packed with a dual motor system equipped with two motors, one in the front, one in the rear axle, allowing it to have AWD. The maximum output is 313 horsepower (230 kW). It takes 5.2 seconds from 0 to 100km/h. The battery capacity of Ioniq 5 First Edition is 58kWh. With one full charge, it can travel 450km based on WLTP.

We asked through the online chat and the assistan told us that 73kWh model will have up to 550km according to WLTP homologation but we don’t know if will arrive later as the 1st Edition is only available with the 58kWh battery pack. Also the Ioniq 5 First Edition will come with Solar roof, a system that we already have seen in the Sonata Hybrid.

In addition, the same 800V charging system as the Porsche Taycan was introduced. The battery can be charged up to 80% within 18 minutes when using Ionity, a 350kW super-fast charger exclusively for several company’s like Hyundai. Hyundai Motor Group’s patented multi-fast charging system (400V voltage boosted to 800V) was also installed.

The total length of the IONIC 5 is 4630mm and the wheelbase is 3000mm. Camera-based side mirrors will be available as an option. What do you think about the Ioniq 5? Would you buy one?
