IONIQ 5 Premiere Rescheduled for February 16th

The last week we were talking about the delay of Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 world debut that was originally scheduled for February 2nd, but after the video disappeared, a new video was uploaded and the new scheduled was moved to “Mid-February”. Now we have known the new date and the IONIQ 5 will be premiered in February 16th.

Initially, the first public event was scheduled to be held on the 2nd of this month, but as we discovered, it was delayed and now we have discovered the reasons. As Europe will be the first country to be available, the industry sources said the delay was caused by local circumstances in Europe due to Coronavirus pandemic.

Hyundai Motor Company plans to launch the Ioniq 5 in the European market first in March. This is because European Union (EU) countries will increase their annual average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by car maker to 95g/km by the end of this year. In South Korea, a pre-contract will be undertaken from February 22nd, and it will be officially released in April. Sales in the North American market are expected to start by the second half of this year.

The size of IONIQ 5 is 4,640mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,600mm in height, which similar to a Tucson SUV. On the other hand, the wheelbase reaches 3,000 mm, which is longer than the Palisade SUV (2,900 mm)’ or Grandeur (2,885 mm). By securing a spacious interior space, the first and second row seats can be completely reclined, and storage space can be placed wherever desired. It is known that the trunk capacity reaches 600 liters, which is the level of a medium SUV.

Ioniq 5 is equipped with two batterie sizes, 58kWh and 73kWh. In the case of the 58 kWh model, it is possible to travel up to 450km (WLTP standard) per charge. It is reported that the mileage can be increased to a maximum of 510 km when having Solar Roof option. The 73 kWh model can run up to 550 km on a single charge (it is not confirmed if the 73 kWh comes with the Solar Roof as standard of after adding the range could be extended like in hte 58 kWh model.

In addition, the IONIQ 5 is the first mass-produced electric vehicle to be equipped with an 800V charging system, so it can charge 80% within 18 minutes when using a super fast charger, and it can drive about 100 km with only 5 minutes charging.

IONIQ 5 is also equipped with many of Hyundai Motor Group’s cutting-edge functions. It is equipped with a wireless update (OTA) function that can update navigation and some functions with software, (HDA2) a driving assistance function at the level of semi-autonomous driving on highways. In addition, a 44-inch augmented reality (AR) head-up display and side mirror camera system are also applied.
