Hyundai plans to launch a Santa Fe PHEV model in 2025 taking advantage of the recently launched new generation. The South Korean carmaker will add its second-generation PHEV system that could reach 62 miles or 100km of range per charge for its best selling SUV.

Hyundai Motor Group recently shared plans to develop the next-generation PHEV system, to multiple parts partners, according to the ETNews. Hyundai Motor Group will start development in the second half of this year and aim to launch it in the Santa Fe in 2025. Some partners have begun developing related components for the new PHEV system.

This new PHEV system will arrive in the next-gen Sorento also during 2026. The development of the Santa FePHEV started with a second-generation system that is in an early stage of development but has significantly improved power performance and fuel efficiency compared to Hyundai Motor Group’s existing PHEV system.

It is expected to run up to 100 km in all-electric range on a single charge, equipped with a new high-density battery pack and two new in-house electric motors under development. Hyundai Motor Group’s decision to develop a Santa Fe PHEV is evaluated as the most realistic eco-friendly car instead of launching a full electric Santa Fe model.

Despite this report, ETNews contacted Hyundai Motor Group regarding the development of the next-generation PHEV model while Hyundai Motor Group answered, “The new car development plan is highly volatile and cannot be confirmed.”
