Genesis has adjusted the production timeline for its upcoming flagship electric SUV, the Genesis GV90, with the latest reports confirming a new start date. According to a report by Korea Economic Daily, the luxury EV will be built at Hyundai Motor Group’s cutting-edge electric vehicle factory in Ulsan, South Korea starting June 2026.

Originally scheduled for late 2025, Genesis first delayed the GV90’s production to March 2026, citing slower-than-expected EV adoption as a primary reason. Now, the timeline has been extended further to June 2026, highlighting the cautious approach Genesis is taking as it navigates an evolving electric vehicle market.

The GV90 is expected to compete in the ultra-luxury electric SUV segment, targeting rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUVBMW iX7, and the forthcoming Range Rover EV. With a bold design, advanced technology, and a fully electric powertrain, the GV90 aims to position Genesis as a strong contender in the global premium EV space.

Production volume is expected to be around 21,000 units annually, based on previous South Korean media reports. The model will be a showcase Hyundai Motor Group’s brand new dedicated eM platform and its commitment to next-generation EV technologies.

Why the Delay?

The adjusted timeline reflects a broader industry trend where several automakers are reassessing their electric vehicle rollouts due to fluctuating global demand and uncertain regulatory conditions. While EV interest remains strong, consumer adoption rates in certain markets have been slower than projected.

Genesis appears to be taking a strategic pause, ensuring the GV90 enters the market at an optimal time with the most competitive specifications.

What’s Next?

As Genesis continues refining the GV90 ahead of its mid-2026 production, enthusiasts and analysts alike are closely watching for new design teasers, performance specifications, and global launch plans.

For now, the GV90 remains one of the most anticipated electric luxury SUVs on the horizon—and the June 2026 production start could position it well for a 2027 global release.
