Hyundai’s INSTEROID trademark registration with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) has sparked speculation about a possible new addition to its lineup. Our colleagues at Car Moses first spotted the Insteroid trademark so we wanted to shed some light on what this new nameplate could be. According to our sources, this could be a production version of Hyundai’s RN24 prototype, potentially what an Inster N should be. While there is no official confirmation from Hyundai, the trademark suggests the company may have plans for an expansion of its range.

Insteroid: A Cyberpunk-Inspired Design?

If the Insteroid becomes a reality, it could feature a futuristic design influenced by the RN24 but with the Inster body. According to our sources, the showcar might have a white color scheme with orange decals. Also a unique digital front fender display could be applied showing pixelated eyes and the Insteroid name in a cyberpunk-style font, setting it apart from the regular Inster. Inside, Hyundai may be experimenting with nixie tube-inspired digital displays—a retro-futuristic touch that enhances the car’s high-tech appeal, something that we already have seen in the Pony Heritage Series EV.

Why the Insteroid Could Make Sense

The European market is seeing an increase in performance-oriented compact EVs, such as the upcoming Renault R5 EV, Alpine A290, and Volkswagen ID.2 GTI. These models aim to bring a combination of affordability, fun driving dynamics, and electric efficiency to the small car segment. If Hyundai is positioning the Insteroid as a sportier alternative to the Inster, it could compete directly with these vehicles, offering a high-tech, performance-focused experience in a similar size category.

What Could the Insteroid Offer?

If Hyundai launch the Insteroid model, it may be an enhanced version of the Inster, possibly with sportier performance, advanced technology, and a more dynamic design. It could:

  • Offer a larger battery for increased range.
  • Feature a more powerful electric motor for improved performance.
  • IONIQ 5 N driving experience in a smaller package?

Final Thoughts: A New Addition to Hyundai’s Microcar Lineup?

Although there is no official confirmation yet, the Insteroid trademark filing hints at a possible expansion of Hyundai’s microcar offerings. Whether it remains a compact crossover or evolves into something slightly larger, one thing is certain—Hyundai appears to be exploring new ways to push the boundaries of urban mobility, technology, and design.
