There are a lot of rumors about the next-gen Hyundai i30 and Kona. One of the rumors said that Hyundai will kill the i30 nameplate and will launch a next-gen Kona crossover that will be bigger and will take place of the i30. This are the best pictures so far of the next-gen Kona (codenamed as SX2) taken by of our colleagues AutoPost.

What we know so far?

Hyundai already have the proof that it works inside their company. It’s called Kia XCEED. Kia currently produce its C-segment hatchback called CEED in station wagon (CEED Sportswagon), shooting brake (PROCEED) and crossover (XCEED) forms. Currently the XCEED is beating the regular CEED thanks to Crossover/SUV customer preference.

While that, the Hyundai i30 is produced in three body versions: hatchback (i30), station wagon (i30 CW) and liftback (i30 Fastback). Just the XCEED alone surpassed all i30 combined body styles sales.

Not that long ago, a German magazine called Auto Motor und Sport published a visualization of a Hyundai i30X crossover (the way they called), which could become the brand’s new model for Europe.

Now the latest info said that and the first pictures of this prototype appeared, together with the information that you can see above (it will have an all-electric version too or SX2e EV -“e” means Europe-). According to our sources, the development of the new Kona was advanced 1 year.

However, there are many questions about the fate of the i30, we are sure you guys will be worried about i30’s high-performance N variants. Let’s see!

Hoping it looks very similar to the sketches that appeared on another site and HTRAC is offered on the next N model.

They were supposedly working on hybrid tech for N models, so maybe that will make debut this time or the 2.5T this time around.

I just hope that the interior is something new. Kia has there amazing new interior with the duel screens, but Hyundai is being left in the dust with the same old “10.25 inch screen”. Hyundai needs to step up if they REALLY want 2 compete with Kia.
