Hyundai Palisade Hybrid Wins Prestigious Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems Award

Hyundai Palisade Hybrid

The automotive landscape is undergoing a monumental shift, and at the forefront of this evolution is the all-new Hyundai Palisade Hybrid. In a landmark year for the automotive industry, WardsAuto announced its 2026 Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems winners, marking the first time in the program's 31-year history that every single winner features electrification.

Rising above a competitive field of 26 rigorous nominees, the Hyundai Palisade Hybrid secured its place among the elite, powered by an advanced 2.5L Turbocharged I-4 HEV system.

A Watershed Moment for Automotive Engineering

The 2026 awards reflect a complete industry embrace of electrified performance. Out of 26 contenders, the final ten winners comprise four battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), four hybrid-electric vehicles (HEVs)—including the Palisade Hybrid—and two plug-in hybrid-electric vehicles (PHEVs).

“The sheer number of hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery-electric vehicles that made up this year’s nominees tells a story in its own right,” said Robin Warner, manager of Wards 10 Best awards programs and juror. “Even the hottest sports cars utilize electric help to engage drivers and, indeed, enhance the experience.”

This sentiment is shared by juror Bob Gritzinger, who noted, “Hybrids, in particular, are no longer niche vehicles, but are now considered integral to automakers’ product portfolios.”

Why the Hyundai Palisade Hybrid Stood Out

WardsAuto judges rigorously evaluate powertrains during real-world driving conditions, scoring them across critical metrics:

  • Horsepower and torque delivery

  • Noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) management

  • Observed fuel efficiency

  • Innovative powertrain technology

Ultimately, the judges look to answer one driving question: “Does this powertrain or propulsion system sell the vehicle?”

The Hyundai Palisade Hybrid’s 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-four hybrid system answered with flying colors, offering a seamless blend of power, refined driving dynamics, and everyday efficiency that modern CUV buyers demand.

Setting a New Standard for CUVs

The 2026 winners span seven CUVs, two sports cars, and one sport wagon, demonstrating that electrification has permeated every segment. Juror Gary Vasilash highlighted the high level of engineering achievement:

“Given the proliferation of hybrids being offered by OEMs, there should be little surprise that hybrids make up a solid portion of our list. And the level of excellence being achieved by these systems is impressive, whether people are looking for performance or efficiency.”

By securing a spot on this prestigious list alongside high-performance icons and luxury EVs, the Hyundai Palisade Hybrid cements its status as a trailblazer in efficient, family-friendly utility vehicles.

About the Awards
