Mit jedem Tag rückt das Kia GT Concept in Serienform näher. Heute bestätigte Soon Nam-Lee, Vizepräsident für internationales Marketing des Unternehmens, dass die Entwicklung des Modells angelaufen ist.
Im Gespräch mit unseren Freunden von CarAdvice Australia im Hauptsitz der Kia Motors Corporation in Seoul, Südkorea, bestätigte Kias Vizepräsident für internationales Marketing, Soon-Nam Lee, dass die Forschungs- und Entwicklungsabteilung bereits mit der Entwicklungsaufgabe betraut wurde.
„Auf der Marketingseite haben wir die Entwicklung des GT Concept bei unserem F&E-Zentrum beantragt; wir diskutieren derzeit darüber.“ sagte Lee.
„Für die Kia Vision 2018 müssen wir unser Luxusimage im US-Markt festigen. Das GT Concept wird eine sehr wichtige Rolle für die Kia Vision spielen.“ fügte er hinzu.
Lee wollte keine Angaben zur Ausstattungsliste machen, sagte aber, das Unternehmen müsse sein Premium-Image im US-Markt festigen. Das größte Problem derzeit? Kia verfügt noch nicht über den erforderlichen Antriebsstrang, um den GT Wirklichkeit werden zu lassen. Deshalb arbeitet das F&E-Zentrum an der Entwicklung des 3,3-Liter-Turbo GDi und des V6-Motors.
„Um den GT zu verwirklichen, brauchen wir einen leistungsstärkeren Motor, daher sprechen wir mit der F&E-Abteilung“, sagte Lee.

Yeah, I think that at first needs to be the GT sedan, and if it works, they will launch a GT4 stinger.

Not having the required powertrain? Kia/Hyundai has many engines that can be utilized besides the 3.3 T-GDI V6 which I actually thought was an engine that will be going into the new Genesis sedan.
This GT is scheduled to be an Audi A7/Mercedes CLS rival, so i think they want to fit the V6 Turbo delivering 395hp. The thing is, the engine is developed but according to korean sources, the status is "not ready" for production. I think this GT will be more sporty driving than a K900. But the car is under first stage development at the R&D Centre, no test mules on the road
There have been a few discussions on OptimaForums.com about the GT. I suspect it will be competing with the new FRS and BRZ.
