genesis g70 facelift 3

Looks like Genesis will reveal more details of its improved G70 sedan soon as they uploaded a pair of 15s teaser videos on their Youtube channel but while that happens, we have a new set of realworld pictures where we can see the G70 in several colors and trims. What do you think?

What we know so far?

The unveiling comes only a couple of weeks after the reveal of its platform-mate Kia Stinger’s facelift, and adds the company’s new corporate styling direction to the brand’s compact sport sedan.

While the G70 originally came to market with a traditional and somewhat generic luxury styling, the car’s style is becoming more progressive and eye-catching with this refresh, hopefully injecting some more interest into the brand. Genesis has not had much success selling the G70 despite robust marketing efforts and its surprise win of the 2019 North American Car of the Year award. In fact, Genesis sold less than 18,500 G70s in the last 2 years it has been on sale in the US.

At the front, the G70 receives a more prominent crest grille that seeks to emulate the center crest of the Genesis winged badge. Whereas other Genesis models have gone with sharper corners in their iteration of the crest grille, the G70 has a more organic and curved shape that ends up looking more aggressive and futuristic, as opposed to the imposing and more luxurious look of the G80, GV80, and G90.

The new headlights likewise receive the new corporate split horizontal design that imitates the wings of the Genesis badge with dual LED daylight running lights which double as the turn signals, and quad LED headlights light up the road ahead. For the G70, Genesis has angled the headlights toward the grille, again, making the G70 look sportier than its larger siblings. The lower bumper of the refreshed G70 is also a sleeker and more organic design.

Around back, the G70 is also substantially updated, with a brand new trunk style featuring an integrated duck tail spoiler that’s taller than before and more noticeable from the side of the car. And the tail lights are also the split-level design similar to the headlights, intruding less on the trunk than before, and allowing for cleaner lines that stand out more against the competition. The rear diffuser is also all-new and features a detailed mesh design between the exhausts, although it retains the dark gray paint and oval exhaust tips from the original G70.

From the side, the G70 loses the tall chrome side cooling vent of the current model and gains a more compact and stylish dark painted vent closer to the bottom of the car, which ties in better with the lower crease in the doors. It’s also interesting to note that the G70 has not adopted the dual side vents from the more expensive G80 and GV80 and retains its mirror-mounted side turn signals for a clean look.

There are also brand new 19” wheels in a turbine pattern that fill the wheel wells nicely. We expect other G70 wheel styles to be redesigned as well.

On the interior, the G70 stays mostly the same, but the screen grows to a 10.25” widescreen that gets over-the-air updates via wifi. The wireless phone charger is moved slightly to accommodate larger phones.

Genesis did not reveal any powertrain information for the facelifted Genesis G70, but we do not expect any changes to the 2.0T or the 3.3TT motors, besides the fact that the manual transmission is now dead.

We will bring more official details of the mid-cycle refresh of the Genesis G70 as we learn them.
