Hyundai Motor Group is already developing a 2.5 Turbo Hybrid system to be mounted by 2025. There have been many rumors that said Hyundai were developing a powerful hybrid system for their future vehicles to complement the 1.6 Turbo Hybrid, but now it was confirmed on an internal document.

A new leaked document of Kia’s Hwaseong plant Union confirmed the assignment of this new powertrain system. “As the Kia union has changed to the era of electrification, we have won investment from the company to deploy the Theta 3 T-GDI to stabilize the employment of its members in the powertrain sector,” the Kia union said.

Starting in 2025, the 2.5 Turbo Hybrid system based on the Theta 3 engine will be built at the Hwaseong plant, according to data released by the union. A combined gasoline turbo and gasoline turbo hybrids are expected to produce 110,000 units a year. Hyundai Motor is also expected to produce it at a similar level at its Ulsan plant.

The first vehicle to be equipped with a new powertrain is likely to be the next generation Palisade that is already under development. Codenamed as LX3, the new Palisade will discontinue its 3.8 gasoline and 2.2 diesel models due to environmental regulations in favor of this new Hybrid powertrain.

The upcoming Hyundai Group’s large models are expected to be equipped with a 2.5 turbo hybrid. There’s also a possibility to be used by Genesis in several markets where electrification is not extended.
