Kia Launched PV5 7 Seater PV5 Passenger Variant Together with the 2027MY

PV5 7 seater

Kia is accelerating its offensive in the global electric van market by expanding the lineup of its dedicated PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle), the PV5. The South Korean automaker recently unveiled a new 3-row, PV5 7 Seater Passenger model alongside a new top-tier "Elite" trim specifically for the UK market. This strategic move aims to simultaneously capture the rapidly growing demand for electric commercial vehicles and multi-passenger family vans globally.

Over 8,100 Units Sold: PV5 Establishes Strong Foothold in Europe

The PV5 is Kia’s first dedicated electric van launched since the company officially announced its specialized PBV business division. Following its entry into the European and UK markets last year, the model has maintained a steep growth trajectory.

In the first quarter of this year alone, sales volume surpassed 8,100 units. This performance secures Kia an approximate 9% share of the European electric light commercial vehicle (eLCV) market, firmly establishing the brand as a rising power in the segment.

Maximizing Space: The New 2-2-3 Seating Architecture

The newly introduced 7-seater variant maximizes the vehicle's inherently generous space utilization. The seating layout is configured in a 2-2-3 arrangement. Kia stated that the cabin delivers class-leading passenger comfort, offering up to 1,732 mm of legroom and shoulder room, alongside 1,075 mm of headroom.

This layout is made possible by the E-GMP.S platform—a dedicated electrification architecture developed by Hyundai Motor Group. The platform ensures a completely flat floor, which significantly optimizes interior space efficiency.

71.2 kWh Battery and Charging Specifications

For the UK market, the 7-seater variant will be offered exclusively with a Long Range specification featuring a 71.2 kWh battery pack.

  • Range: Estimated at over 390 km (approx. 242 miles) on a single charge under the WLTP certification cycle.

  • Charging: Supports up to 150 kW DC fast charging, allowing the battery to replenish from 10% to 80% in 30 minutes.

Premium Upgrades: The New Elite Trim

The newly introduced flagship "Elite" trim significantly enhances the vehicle's overall value proposition. It packages highly requested safety and convenience features as standard equipment, including:

  • Power sliding doors

  • Ventilated seats

  • Surround View Monitor (SVM)

  • Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM)

  • Parking Distance Warning (PDW) system

UK Pricing Strategy and Trim Comparison

The pricing structure for the PV5 lineup presents an interesting strategic curve. In the UK market, the entry-level 5-seater model starts at £33,195, while the new 7-seater base model is positioned at £36,995—representing a premium of £3,800.

However, when comparing the high-spec Elite trim, the pricing gap narrows significantly. The 5-seater Elite is priced at £41,175, while the 7-seater Elite costs £41,975. This reduces the price difference to just £800, making the 7-seater variant highly competitive as more optional equipment is added.

Target Market and Competitive Landscape

Industry analysts suggest that with the 7-seater variant, Kia intends to transition the PV5 beyond the scope of a standard logistics cargo van. The configuration targets the multi-passenger family vehicle market and premium business shuttle fleets.

Compared to direct European rivals, such as the Volkswagen ID. Buzz or Mercedes-Benz’s electric commercial lineup, the PV5 holds a distinct advantage in terms of space-to-price efficiency. In its domestic South Korean market, the PV5 is projected to become a viable alternative in the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment currently dominated by the Kia Carnival and Hyundai Staria.

Production and Delivery Schedule

Kia will open the order books for the new PV5 variants in the UK starting June 8. Full-scale production is scheduled to begin in July, with the first customer deliveries expected to take place in October. The domestic South Korean launch is expected to align closely with the production timelines at the dedicated Kia AutoLand Hwaseong PBV plant.
