Hyundai IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 Battery Covers May Come Loose and Vibrate: New TSB Explains the Fix

Hyundai IONIQ 5

If your IONIQ 5 or IONIQ 6 makes a vibration noise from underneath, Hyundai may have an explanation. A new U.S. technical service bulletin (TSB 26-EV-008H), dated October 2026 and highlighted by The Ioniq Guy on YouTube, says the lower cover of the battery pack can come loose around its center mounting bolts.

This is a repair procedure for dealers, not a recall, so it should only matter if your car has the problem.

Which Cars Are Affected?

The bulletin lists these vehicles:

  • Hyundai IONIQ 5 (NE): 2022 to 2024 model years

  • Hyundai IONIQ 6 (CE): 2023 to 2025 model years

In the U.S., Hyundai canceled the IONIQ 6 facelift, with only the IONIQ 6 N surviving. The bulletin only says that "some" vehicles may be affected, without saying how many.

What Causes The Noise

The part in question is the battery system assembly (BSA) lower cover, which The Ioniq Guy describes as a fiber-infused plastic panel that protects the aluminum underside of the battery pack. According to the bulletin, the noise may be caused by this cover becoming loose around the center mounting bolts. Technicians look for the cover separating around the fastener holes.

Hyundai does not say whether the cause is age and vibration or a factory defect. The Ioniq Guy points out that the bulletin also gives technicians no video or audio example of what the noise sounds like.

How Hyundai Fixes It

Hyundai allows 0.3 labor hours for the job, which replaces the center bolts and adds a cup washer to each one. The number depends on the battery:

  • Short-range battery: 4 bolts and 4 cup washers

  • Long-range battery: 6 bolts and 6 cup washers

The procedure is as follows:

  1. Raise the vehicle and inspect the underside of the battery for separation around the fastener holes.

  2. Photograph the separated cover as repair justification.

  3. Remove the center bolts, replacing them one at a time. The old bolts must not be reused.

  4. Peel the adhesive covering from each cup washer and make sure the mounting surface is clean and dry.

  5. Fit each new bolt through a cup washer, with the adhesive side facing away from the bolt head.

  6. Tighten each bolt to 79 Nm (58 lb-ft).

  7. Test drive the car and check that the vibration has gone.

These are the parts listed in the bulletin:

  • Bolt and washer assembly, IONIQ 5: 37535-GI050

  • Bolt and washer assembly, IONIQ 6: 37535-KL000

  • Cup washer, both models: 37550-GI000FFF

What Owners Should Do

The bulletin says "normal warranty applies", so the repair should be covered if your car is still under warranty. It does not say what happens if your car is not. Hyundai also notes that IONIQ repairs can only be performed at IONIQ-certified dealers.

The Ioniq Guy suggests a quick check before booking a visit: reach under the center of the car and push the cover up and down to see if it is loose. If it is not, the dealer probably will not apply this bulletin. If it is, tell your dealer about the noise and mention TSB 26-EV-008H. The Ioniq Guy adds that this is a different issue from the trunk rattle that many owners know about.

Our Take

This does not look like a widespread problem so far. The Ioniq Guy has not heard of it being common, and did not experience it on a personal 2022 IONIQ 5 or 2024 IONIQ 6. The good news is that the fix is quick and that Hyundai treats it as a normal warranty repair.
