The wait is officially over. Our industry sources have confirmed that the highly anticipated 8th generation Hyundai Avante (known internationally in overseas markets as the Elantra) will make its official local debut at the upcoming 2026 Busan International Mobility Show (BIMOS 2026). The next-generation compact sedan will be fully uncovered during the event's official Press Day on Friday, June 26, 2026, setting the stage for a major evolution in Hyundai's compact lineup. What We Know About the Avante CN8
While the current model has enjoyed strong success globally, the 8th generation (codename as CN8) marks a significant departure in design, packaging, and powertrain efficiency. Recent spy shots of P1 prototypes testing both in South Korea and California give us a clear indication of what to expect.
1. Bolder Design & A Larger Footprint
The all-new Elantra transitions toward a more premium, executive character. It is set to be visibly longer and wider than the outgoing model, maximizing cabin space and shifting away from the ultra-sharp, angular lines of the seventh generation.
Front Fascia: Features unique inverted T-shaped daytime running lights that double as progressive turn indicators, paired with separate low- and high-beam lamps positioned lower into the bumper. It moves away from a unified front grille layout for a more expressive look.
Profile & Rear: A traditional side profile with a flatter roofline and straighter beltline, leading to a rear with a cleaner, less aggressive concave trunk surface and ultra-slim H-shaped lighting stretching across the rear width.

2. Next-Gen Infotainment: Pleos Connect
The interior adopts design cues inspired by Hyundai's newest electric vehicles like the upcoming IONIQ 3 or updated ICE vehicles like the Grandeur facelift.
Screens: Higher trims feature a massive 17-inch center touchscreen display running Hyundai Motor Group’s new Pleos Connect operating system (built on Android Automotive OS), while lower trims may carry a 14.6-inch unit. A slim 9.9-inch instrument cluster sits neatly on top of the dashboard.
Layout: A clean dashboard layout with physical controls neatly integrated into the panel below the central screen. Drivers will also find a unique squircle steering wheel featuring the Morse code "H" instead of the traditional brand emblem.
3. All-New TMED-II Hybrid Powertrain
One of the most critical mechanical upgrades is the debut of the TMED-II hybrid system in the compact segment. This dual-motor setup replaces the older single-motor architecture to deliver optimized regenerative braking, smoother motor-to-engine transitions, and increased mid-range torque.
V2L Functionality: The next-gen hybrid also includes some EV-like features like the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) bi-directional charging capabilities, letting owners power external electronic devices straight from the traction battery, or the Stay Mode, which allows drivers to stay on EV mode for longer periods without needing the help of the combustion engine.
The Launch Timeline
Following its media unveiling on June 26 at BEXCO in Busan, the vehicle will be displayed for public access through July 5.
Domestic ordering books for the new Avante in South Korea are expected to open shortly after the show (as Hyundai already opened registrations for the 8th Gen Avante Early Access), with global market rollouts—including the North American spec 2027 Hyundai Elantra—scheduled to follow later this year and into early 2027. Stay tuned as we cover the live floors of Busan for the official specifications and high-resolution imagery.
