Genesis second SUV, the GV70, finished the emission test certification and the powertrain has been unveiled. According to the Ministry of Environment in South Korea, Genesis has completed emissions and noise certifications for the GV70 2.2 diesel as well as 2.5 and 3.5 gasoline turbo engines. All of this engines are combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Genesis GV70 is expected to be released in mid-November.The GV70 has exactly the same smartstream powertrain line-up as the Genesis G80. Smartstream is the next-generation powertrain that satisfies both performance and efficiency, and is equipped with dual fuel injection, low friction cylinders, and electric driven CVVT.

The GV70 4-cylinder gasoline uses the Smartstream G2.5 engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission to achieve a maximum output of 304 horsepower and a maximum torque of 43 kgm while the GV70 6-cylinder twin turbo is powered by a Smartstream G3.5 engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission, producing a maximum output of 380 horsepower and a maximum torque of 54 kgm.

The GV70 diesel uses a combination of the Smartstream D2.2 diesel engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission, with a maximum output of 210 horsepower and a maximum torque of 45 kgm. According to the Ministry of Environment certification, the GV70 2.2 diesel has an empty vehicle weight of 1935kg (RWD) and 2000kg (with AWD). The 2.5 and 3.5 gasoline engines weight is 1820 kg (RWD) and 1975 kg respectively (AWD).

The GV70 reflects the original design elements of the Genesis brand. Large mesh crest grills and quad headlamps are applied to the front. A thick character line was added to the bonnet to emphasize the volume. The side portion features a rear-wheel drive platform-specific proportion and a coupe-type roofline.

The quad rear lamp, which gave a sense of unity with the headlamps, dug deeper into the trunk lid compared to the GV80. The rear bumper design and muffler tip are applied differently depending on the powertrain specification. The 2.2 diesel will be equipped with a hidden type, the 2.5T will be equipped with a long dual muffler, and the 3.5T will be equipped with a large round muffler.
