Genesis Confirms First Luxury EREV SUV for Early 2027 with 640+ Miles of Range

Genesis is entering its second decade by redefining high-end electrification. Announced during Hyundai Motor Company’s 2026 CEO Investor Day, the Korean luxury brand will officially launch its first Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) SUV in early 2027 (Q1 2027).

Designed to deliver the seamless refinement and instant torque of an electric vehicle without range or charging bottlenecks, the upcoming Genesis EREV SUV targets a class-leading total driving range of over 640 miles (approx. 1,030 km) on a single charge and full tank.

Serial Hybrid Architecture with Superior Range

The upcoming Genesis EREV represents a strategic technical leap beyond traditional parallel hybrids. By pairing high-output electric drive motors with an efficient combustion generator, the vehicle operates purely on electric drive power while using the internal combustion engine exclusively to replenish the battery on the move.

• Surpassing Mainstream Benchmarks: With over 640 miles of total range, the Genesis EREV SUV exceeds the 600-mile mark of the Santa Fe EREV, ensuring effortless long-distance grand touring.

• Next-Generation In-House Cells: Powered by Hyundai Motor Group’s newly developed proprietary battery cells, which double output capability and reduce charging times by 40% compared to previous high-nickel packs.

• Optimized Battery Sizing: Operates on a battery pack less than half the size of a conventional full BEV, eliminating hundreds of pounds of unnecessary mass while preserving spacious cabin proportions and agile road handling.

Pioneering Thermal Runaway Protection (TRP)

Safety and battery longevity sit at the heart of Genesis’s second-decade roadmap. The Genesis EREV SUV will debut the group’s advanced Thermal Runaway Protection (TRP) structural safety architecture:

• Active Structural Containment: Unlike traditional systems that merely delay heat dispersion, TRP integrates physical cell-level heat-dissipating barriers that stop heat transfer at the source.

• Rigorous Testing: Validated through more than 200 intensive thermal tests across both prismatic and pouch NCM cell formats.

• Predictive Cloud BMS: Connected directly to Hyundai Motor Group’s cloud network, the system monitors individual cell voltage, thermal spikes, and resistance in real time, targeted to extend overall battery life by up to 20% by 2028.

Fueling the Second-Decade Expansion

The arrival of the EREV SUV is a key pillar in Genesis's multi-powertrain expansion. Alongside the launch of the brand’s first hybrid (the GV80 Hybrid in Q4 2026) and the ultra-luxury GV90 flagship SUV, Genesis is positioned to capture high-margin luxury growth.

The brand is targeting 350,000 annual sales across more than 40 global markets by 2030, backed by a 50% expansion of its global retail footprint (surpassing 270 dedicated brand spaces) and new European market launches including Spain.
