Hyundai Motor Group’s luxury brand, Genesis, has announced the global launch roadmap for its flagship ultra-large luxury electric SUV, the GV90. The flagship EV will debut in South Korea this year before rolling out sequentially to the United States in 2027. With the addition of the GV90 to its expanding lineup, Genesis is aiming to propel its global volume to 400,000 total units per year

Speaking at a GV90 media briefing held at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco on the 20th (local time), José Muñoz, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, addressed the vehicle's strategic role.

“Genesis will use the launch of the GV90 as an opportunity to increase luxury brand value,” said President Muñoz.

400,000 Global Sales Target and 10-Year Milestone

The introduction of the GV90 marks a pivotal expansion for Genesis as it seeks to elevate overall brand volume and prestige:

  • 400,000 Total Annual Brand Target: With the GV90 anchoring the top of its vehicle portfolio, Genesis has set a goal to scale its total global sales to approximately 400,000 units annually.

  • 10-Year Growth Record: President Muñoz noted that Genesis has surpassed 1 million cumulative global sales over the past 10 years.

  • Expanding Customer Reach: Muñoz expressed confidence that the “GV90 will be able to cover a diverse customer base by surpassing other brands in performance, quality, and design.”

  • Lineup Strategy: Outlining the brand's global market vision, Genesis plans “to find new opportunities and maximize profits by launching a diverse brand lineup.”

  • Defending US Competitiveness and Mitigating Tariffs

President Muñoz highlighted plans to reinforce the company's core competitiveness in the United States, which represents a critical market. As the Donald Trump administration imposes tariffs on imported vehicles and pushes for domestic manufacturing, imported carmakers face mounting pressure.

To counter tariff impacts directly, Hyundai Motor Group is actively deploying its North American manufacturing base:

    • HMGMA Operations: Hyundai Motor Group responded to tariff policies immediately through the active operation of Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia.

    • Supply Chain Localization: Prioritizing the domestic localization of the raw material supply chain.

    • Parts Commonization: Expanding common parts usage across platforms to improve base cost prices and protect profitability.

Through localized production, strategic platform synergies, and the phased rollout of the GV90 starting in Korea this year and arriving in the U.S. in 2027, Genesis is positioned to drive toward its 400,000-unit global ambition.
