Hyundai Motor Company hosted ‘The all new AVANTE Tech Day’ at Arc Gangnam in Seocho-gu, Seoul. Unveiled under the slogan “Experience beyond the car class, The all new AVANTE”, the event provided an in-depth look into the engineering and design choices driving the 8th-generation model.
Beyond superficial updates, the All New Avante introduces a mid-sized footprint, reinforced structural integrity, advanced hybrid efficiency, and software-defined vehicle (SDV) capabilities.
"Avante is Hyundai Motor Company's global best-selling sedan that has been raising the standards of popular cars for a long time," stated Yang Yu-chan, Director of MSV Project Office 1 at Hyundai's R&D Headquarters. "The all-new Avante further strengthens its existing strengths of design, practicality, and efficiency with safety as the top priority. It was completed as a global top-tier model that delivers premium value and technological experience beyond the car level."

1. Safety Architecture: Large-Sedan Level Rigidity & First-in-Brand Features
Hyundai elevated passenger protection by re-engineering the Avante's structural frame and integrating brand-new active safety technologies.
Reinforced Body Structure
Ultra-High Tension Steel: Extended the application of 1 GPa (gigapascal) or higher steel, boosting the body’s ultra-high-tension steel proportion from 52.6% to 58.7% and pushing average tensile strength to 718 MPa.
Frontal & Undercarriage Protection: Hot-stamped steel plates were added to the front bumper back beams and extended laterally to better disperse energy during low-speed and undercarriage crashes. A double-reinforcement structure on the dash and increased tunnel panel thickness prevent cabin deformation during frontal collisions.
Side-Impact Defenses: Thicker inner and outer B-pillar panels, double-section side sills, and internal bulkhead structures efficiently transfer and balance lateral collision loads.
Brand-First Safety Technologies
Shift-by-Wire (SBW) P-Stage Emergency Braking: A Hyundai first, allowing drivers to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop during emergencies simply by holding down the P-button on the column-type electronic gear selector. The system cuts acceleration, applies hydraulic braking across all four wheels, and automatically engages the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) when speed drops below 1 km/h.
Pedal Misoperation Safety Assist: Standard equipment that limits drive force and triggers automatic braking if the accelerator is accidentally stomped when launching from a stop.
Advanced ADAS Package: Debuts Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control 2 (NSCC 2)—which auto-decelerates for speed bumps, intersections, and speed zones on both highways and public roads—alongside Memory Reverse Assist (MRA), 10 airbags, and rear seat belt pretensioners.

2. Ride Comfort & NVH: Premium Suspension & Acoustic Dampening
To deliver the smooth, quiet drive expected of higher-segment vehicles, Hyundai overhauled the chassis dynamics and sound suppression.
Dynamic Suspension Upgrades
Selective Frequency Damping (SFD3): Applied to the front wheels to control body lean in low-frequency movements while filtering out high-frequency vibrations from choppy road surfaces.
Hydraulic Control Rebound Stopper (HRS2): Absorbs harsh energy inputs when hitting speed bumps or rough terrain, preventing jarring secondary rebounds.
Hydro Bushings (Gasoline 2.0): Applied to the rear suspension to absorb road impact via internal fluid resistance, improving lateral stability and steering feedback.
Rigidity Enhancements: A 4-point strut ring at the front upper strut mounts and an underbody tunnel stay prevent chassis twisting during high-speed cornering and lane changes.
Multi-Layered Noise & Vibration Reduction
Cabin Insulation: Features a double-layer floor carpet, high-density dash sound-absorbing pads, and sound-absorbing quiet tires.
Acoustic Glass & Weather Sealing: Double-junction soundproof glass is standard across the windshield and all passenger doors. Triple-sealed A/B pillars, optimized mirror folding seals, and a mesh deflector on the wide sunroof minimize high-speed wind turbulence.
3. Powertrain & Hybrid Efficiency: Greater Power, Reduced Losses
The All New Avante Hybrid pairs performance enhancements with zero-compromise fuel economy.
Engine & Transmission Advances
Exhaust-Integrated Cylinder Head: Integrates exhaust gas routes into the coolant-circulating cylinder head, managing heat and ensuring stable combustion during high-load driving.
350-Bar High-Pressure Injection: Atomizes fuel into micro-particles, boosting internal combustion efficiency by ~2.9%.
Weight-Reduced 2nd-Gen DCT: By utilizing reverse electric motor driving (a system adapted from the Palisade Hybrid), hardware mechanical reverse gears were eliminated, shaving weight, reducing friction loss, and delivering smoother reverse maneuvering.
Acceleration & Fuel Economy Gains
0 to 100 km/h acceleration: Improved by 5.8%.
80 to 120 km/h overtaking acceleration: Improved by 16.7%.
Top Speed: Increased to 187 km/h.
Fuel Efficiency: Targeted at approximately 10% higher efficiency than the previous model (based on 17-inch wheels, pending final government certification).
Smart Energy Management
Aerodynamics: Achieves a 0.26 Cd drag coefficient using active air flaps, an aero-wheel profile, and a full underbody cover.
IECC2 & 4th-Gen Smart Intake: Minimizes A/C compressor energy usage by mixing fresh air and recirculated air based on interior humidity levels.
Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0 & Predictive SoC: Expands energy capture down to near-stop speeds (<10 km/h) and uses navigation and radar data to predictively manage battery state-of-charge based on upcoming road topography.

4. Exterior Styling & Cabin Space Optimization
Crafted around Hyundai's "Art of Steel" design language, the 8th-generation Avante combines a wider, planted stance with sports sedan proportions.
Proportions: The extended hood, wider front track, and elongated dash-to-axle dimension emulate the athletic stance of a rear-wheel-drive sedan. Diagonal front and rear corner cuts visually shorten the overhangs while expanding true interior room.
Sculpted Door Panels: Feature dynamic, intersecting character lines and muscular fender volumes.
Interior Comfort: Rear-seat legroom, headroom, and shoulder room have all been expanded. Thinner, high-rigidity front seats create additional knee clearance for second-row passengers.
Utility: Trunk space grows to 479 liters (VDA), with the trunk floor lowered and the opening width enlarged by 45 mm to 475 mm for easier loading of strollers and bulk luggage.
5. Next-Gen Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) Features
The All New Avante serves as a flagship for Hyundai’s transition into software-centric mobility, featuring the brand-new Pleos Connect ecosystem.
Dual Displays: 14.6-inch and 12.9-inch wide displays with a 16:9 ratio.
Generative AI Agent 'Gleo AI': Built on large language model (LLM) technology, Gleo AI acts as an intelligent companion capable of natural, context-aware conversations. It handles complex multi-command queries, controls vehicle functions, and retrieves live web info.
Pleos Connect UX: Offers customizable single-screen and split-screen layouts, physical shortcut controls, an open app ecosystem, and over-the-air (OTA) updates.
Conclusion: Redefining the Mass-Market Sedan
With its expanded size, standard-setting body strength, refined suspension tuning, and AI-driven infotainment system, The All New Avante reshapes expectations for compact and mid-sized sedans. By pairing luxury-grade safety features with 157 PS hybrid performance and software adaptability, Hyundai's global best-seller continues to set the pace for mass-market automotive engineering.
