Hyundai Motor’s N-brand SUV Kona N will be released in July 2020. Now we have more details of Hyundai’s first high performance SUV and according to the industry, Kona N will have 8-speed DCT wet transmission (premiered by the Veloster N) and for the first time an All-Wheel Drive system.

As we have advanced Hyundai will accelerate the expansion of its high-performance N-brand line-up during this year. Hyundai Motor will introduce the new Sonata and Avante N-line variants as well as the Kona N, starting with the Veloster N 8-speed DCT scheduled for release in April. The high-performance N brand will also release an eco-friendly motorized model in the future (maybe based on the 45? Let’s see!)

The Kona N features an aggressively designed front and rear bumper, an oversized radiator grille and rear spoiler. In addition, it is differentiated from the general model through 19-inch N-brand exclusive wheels, red high-performance brake calipers, two large-diameter muffler tips, and skid plates.

The change in the side portion of Kona N is also confirmed. In the Kona regular model, the cladding on the side of the body is black plastic, while the Kona N is applied in the same color as the body (as you can see in these spy shots), further enhancing the fender’s sense of volume. In addition, some changes to the design of the lower part of the door are made, and an N-side skirt is applied.

Kona N is known to share powertrain with Veloster N. The combination of a 2.0-liter turbo engine with a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed wet DCT transmission has a maximum output of 275 horsepower and a maximum torque of 36.0kgm. In particular, based on the front-wheel drive method, the N brand is expected to be the first four-wheel drive supported.
