Next gen Kia Sportage (codenamed as NQ5) was caught again, this time the rear camouflage was removed and so we can able to see for the first time the back design of Kia’s next-gen SUV. Found at ClubStinger, the Sportage prototype is the short wheelbase model.
What we know so far?
We spied the fifth generation of the Kia Sportage out on test near the Nürburgring, and the loss of some camouflage (now wearing just sticker camo) allowed us to see the new look. This is the regular short wheel base model, Kia will also launch a long wheel base version, that as far as we know, will be exclusive for China (according to this images, this may vary now).
Especially up front we are looking at some bigger changes with the new positioned head lights. We can also see the bonnet line and we are expecting the latest look of the Kia typical Tiger nose. The new Sportage will also use the brand’s recently revealed new logo.
The roofline is more sloping and the slimmer looking C-pillar indicating a more sportier look and we can also see that the back will get a completely new look as well. This prototype has a yellow sticker proving that that the new Sportage will also get a hybrid & plug-in hybrid option. Sharing the platform with the new Hyundai Tucson its not really surprising.
Initially the Kia Sportage was sheduled to debut in the first quarter of 2020, 1 year ago, but it was delayed two times, first placed for the end of the year (similar to Tucson launch time) and later for April 2021. A new information that we will share soon says new Sportage SOP is set for June 2021, so the launch could be delayed once again.
