As Kia America prepares for the highly anticipated market rollout of the second-generation 2027 Kia Seltos, manufacturing logistics are moving into high gear at the source. Mass production of the North American specification subcompact SUV has officially commenced at Kia’s flagship AutoLand Gwangju facility in South Korea.
This production milestone marks a critical phase in Kia's global supply chain strategy. Gwangju Plant 1, the primary production hub for the Seltos, has integrated the completely redesigned crossover onto its high-volume assembly lines. The plant is currently prioritizing the initial export allocations of internal combustion engine (ICE) variants destined for United States and Canadian ports.
AutoLand Gwangju: The Hub Behind Kia’s Global Subcompact Volume
AutoLand Gwangju stands as one of Kia’s most technologically advanced manufacturing complexes, serving as the sole global birthplace for the next-generation Seltos (alongside the EV5 electric SUV on neighboring lines). To accommodate the larger footprint and advanced electronic architecture of the 2027 model, the facility underwent precision retooling over the winter.
The production ramp-up involves complex line coordination to support the model's unprecedented powertrain diversity. For the first time in this vehicle segment, a single manufacturing line must simultaneously handle three distinct propulsion architectures:
The naturally aspirated 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle inline-four.
The high-performance 1.6-liter Turbocharged (T-GDI) engine.
The upcoming 1.6-liter Hybrid (HEV) powertrain, also featuring integrated electronic All-Wheel Drive (e-AWD).
The plant’s advanced automated logistics systems manage the just-in-time delivery of the 2027 Seltos’s massive interior upgrade—most notably the integrated ccNC (Connected Car Navigation Cockpit) dashboard, which features a dual 12.3-inch curved digital display network spanning nearly 30 inches.

Supply Chain Timeline and Dealer Allocations
With mass production running at full capacity in South Korea, the first wave of maritime transport vessels has departed for North American ports of entry.
According to port logistics data, Western U.S. vehicle processing centers began receiving the first batches of the 2027 Seltos ICE variants earlier this month. The official distribution schedule dictates a tiered release:
Gasoline Models (Q2 2026 Launch): The 2.0L naturally aspirated trims (LX, S, EX, X-Line) and the 1.6T variants are arriving at U.S. dealerships between June and July 2026.
Hybrid Variants (Late 2026 Launch): Production of the Seltos Hybrid is scheduled to scale up at Gwangju later this autumn, ensuring a market introduction by Q4 2026.
Market Outlook: Scaling to Meet Demand
The first-generation Seltos carved out a massive market share in the competitive B-SUV segment, demanding an aggressive production strategy for its successor. Built on an elongated K3 platform, the 2027 model is wider, longer, and boasts class-leading rear legroom and cargo capacity, bridging the gap between subcompact efficiency and compact utility.
