Genesis Magma Racing Retains Full Driver Lineup for 2027 FIA WEC Season

Genesis Magma Racing WEC

Genesis Magma Racing has officially confirmed its six-driver roster for the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), opting to retain an unchanged lineup for its second consecutive year in top-tier endurance racing.

By keeping the same squad behind the wheel of the GMR-001 Hypercar, the outfit aims to prioritize stability, build upon technical data gathered during its rookie campaign, and push toward its overarching goal: consistently scoring championship points throughout 2027.

Stability Provides the Foundation for Further Progress

In the complex landscape of Hypercar racing, driver chemistry and engineering continuity are paramount. Retaining the complete driver roster ensures that Genesis Magma Racing enters its sophomore season without having to reset communication lines or setup preferences.

"Continuity is essential at this stage of our program," said Cyril Abiteboul, Genesis Magma Racing Team Principal. "Our drivers have built valuable knowledge of the GMR-001 Hypercar and strong working relationships with our technical team. They have also developed a positive dynamic and genuinely enjoy working together. Retaining the same lineup allows us to carry this experience and team spirit into 2027, continue developing the car efficiently and take further steps towards scoring points with both cars at every race."

Debut Season Milestones: From Debut Points to Pole Position

The decision to maintain the current roster follows a strong rookie campaign characterized by rapid progress across the international endurance circuit:

  • Instant Competitiveness & First Points: The GMR-001 showed solid pace straight out of the gate at the Imola opener. Just one round later, the #17 GMR-001 Hypercar secured the program’s historic first championship points at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.

  • Season-Best Result: The #17 entry matched speed with endurance at Circuit of the Americas, finishing seventh at Lone Star Le Mans—the manufacturer’s top race result to date.

  • Le Mans Finish on Debut: Crossing the finish line at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans on the first attempt satisfied a critical program reliability milestone.

  • Top-Five Contention & Maiden Pole: The #19 GMR-001 Hypercar demonstrated front-running pace by battling inside the top five at the 6 Hours of Fuji. Soon after, the #17 car claimed Genesis Magma Racing’s maiden FIA WEC pole position at the 6 Hours of Barcelona, achieving the feat in just the team’s seventh race.

Unlocking GMR-001 Hypercar Performance in 2027

Refining a prototype endurance racer requires intimate familiarity with machine dynamics and tire degradation.Keeping the driver core intact gives the engineering crew an established benchmark as winter development progresses.

"Our drivers understand the car, our working methods and what we need to improve," explained Gabriele Tarquini, Genesis Magma Racing Sporting Director. "They work very well together and have built a strong relationship with the entire team, so we are very pleased to continue with this group next season. Securing our first pole position in Barcelona was an important milestone and demonstrated how far we have come together in our debut season. We believe this group has the experience and potential to go even further. With the same drivers, we can build on these strong foundations, unlock further performance from the GMR-001 and fight regularly for points in 2027."

Looking Ahead: Exact Car Allocations

While the complete pool of six drivers is secured for the 2027 campaign, the exact distribution of drivers across the two GMR-001 Hypercars (#17 and #19) will be officially revealed closer to the season-opening race.
