Hyundai plans to add hybrid and N-line models to the new Avante product line-up in June, in the article we have several images of the N-Line, including the sport seats. The high-performance N variant is confirmed and scheduled for next year. Today we have new pictures of the N-Line taken in South Korea. Thanks for the tip glazonyoursix!

What we know so far?

According to Hyundai Motor officials, both models will begin mass production at the Ulsan 3 plant from mid-May. The hybrid model shares the powertrain with Ionic, and the N-line will replace the existing Avante Sport.

The new Avante Hybrid was featured in an online public event in Los Angeles, US last month. President of the Hyundai Motor Research and Development Division, Albert Biermann, announced that the new Avante Hybrid would combine a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a system output of 139 horsepower and a 32kW electric motor.

“Hybrid models use a completely independent structure of multi-link suspension to improve ride quality and handling.”

The new Avante N line is equipped with the same 1.6-liter gasoline turbo engine as the previous Avante Sport, and a 7-speed DCT and 6-speed manual transmission. The current Avante Sport has a peak output of 204 horsepower and a maximum torque of 27.0 kg.m, but the new car is expected to have improved performance.

Apart from that, a high-performance N model will be unveiled next year. The 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine previously applied to Veloster N, and the 8-speed wet DCT and 6-speed manual transmission are promising.

On the other hand, the new Avante, which entered domestic sales from the 7th, is characterized by a 3rd generation platform and advanced convenience and safety features. In particular, the ‘Parametric Dynamics’ theme was applied to the exterior design to pursue a future-oriented sense.

I wouldn't be surprised if this new N-line model ditches the old 7DCT in favor of either the new 8AT (efficiency/performance/smoothness) or 8DCT with a bit more power. Although the Sonata received only a 180hp version of the 1.6T, I suspect they will probably punch the dial up a bit. The old 7DCT had too many complaints working against it, so I doubt they would keep it since they ditched it on the current Tucson as well. Without knowing the full potential of the new 1.6T, it's hard to draw any real conclusions. If they want to beat Honda and VW for fun factor even this version will have to bring a bit more power than the last gen to snatch up more sales.
