Hyundai Motor Group has announced an expanded partnership with Google, aimed at delivering cutting-edge navigation and infotainment solutions to drivers. Owners of new Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles will soon enjoy enhanced navigation capabilities powered by Google Maps Platform and the Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS). This collaboration promises to elevate the driving experience with access to real-time information about 250 million places globally.
Advanced Navigation Through Google Maps Platform’s Places API
Central to this partnership is the integration of Google Maps Platform’s Places API. This technology enhances navigation accuracy by offering detailed information about places, including business hours, contact details, ratings, and reviews. Kia drivers in North America will be the first to benefit from these features, with a global rollout planned for Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis models.
Chang Song, President and Head of Hyundai Motor Group’s Advanced Vehicle Platform Division, emphasized the Group’s focus on customer-centric technology: “Hyundai Motor Group is developing technologies in the field of SDV and mobility to provide customer-centered values. Our partnership with Google, who helps people find a lot of useful information around the world, will serve as an opportunity for Hyundai Motor Group, broadening our coverage of technology in the mobility market and providing greater values to customers.”
Google’s Commitment to Innovation in Automotive
Jorgen Behrens, Vice President and General Manager of Google Maps Automotive, highlighted the synergy of the partnership:
“Every day, we make over 100 million updates in Google Maps to help people find fresh and comprehensive information about where to go and how to get there. By integrating our extensive database of places into Hyundai Motor Group vehicles through the Places API, we’re empowering drivers with the knowledge they need to navigate confidently.”
Android Automotive OS: Expanding the Software Ecosystem
The adoption of Google’s Android Automotive Operating System is another cornerstone of this collaboration. By leveraging AAOS, Hyundai Motor Group aims to secure an innovative edge in software-defined vehicle (SDV) technology. This strategic move positions the Group at the forefront of the future mobility market, where software plays a pivotal role.
A Future-Focused Partnership
As Hyundai Motor Group and Google continue to collaborate, the focus remains on advancing artificial intelligence (AI) and future mobility capabilities. Together, they are exploring new ways to redefine the driving experience, ensuring that customers benefit from the latest technological innovations.
With this partnership, Hyundai Motor Group demonstrates its commitment to integrating state-of-the-art technologies, making driving more intuitive, informed, and enjoyable for customers worldwide.
