Today, Genesis has officially unveiled its first-ever hybrid system, to be premiered in the GV80 Hybrid next month and engineered from the ground up to deliver a quiet, electric-vehicle-like driving experience without sacrificing combustion power. Now and thanks to our colleagues at Healer TV, we can take a look to the U.S.-spec model of the long awaited hybrid SUV, caught completely undisguised in Korea.
Key Performance Specifications & Efficiency Gains
The Genesis 2.5 Turbo Hybrid System utilizes a parallel hybrid configuration. It combines a starter-generator motor (P1) for engine ignition and power generation with a drive motor (P2) responsible for wheel propulsion and regenerative braking.
Combined Output: 352 Pferdestärke (~347 hp) — a 16% increase over the standard 2.5 Turbo gasoline model.
Peak Torque: 54.0 kgf·m (~390 lb-ft) — a 26% performance increase.
0–100 km/h Acceleration: Approximately 7.1 seconds (based on internal test standards).
Fuel Efficiency: Improved by 25% or more on the two-wheel-drive, five-seat model with 19-inch wheels.
Liquid-Cooled Battery & EV-Like Dynamics
Marking a major milestone, this system is the first hybrid from Hyundai Motor Group to feature a liquid-cooled hybrid battery system. Compared to traditional air-cooled setups, liquid cooling offers superior thermal management, unlocking higher maximum discharge output and allowing the electric motor to engage over a significantly broader range of driving conditions.
To elevate cabin serenity, Genesis optimized the powertrain to maximize EV Mode under specific scenarios:
Cold Starts & Underground Parking: The vehicle operates exclusively in EV Mode from departure up to 30 km/h, preventing engine noise and vibrations in enclosed spaces. The gas engine seamlessly engages once merged into general traffic.
Urban Commuting: Expanded EV motor engagement optimizes stop-and-go city traffic and urban intersections.
Instant Acceleration Response: Direct throttle inputs in EV Mode trigger simultaneous downshifts and clutch engagement, enabling 18% faster acceleration response at 100 km/h compared to the 2.5 gasoline turbo model.
Mechanical Innovations & Vibration Control
Genesis implemented several engineering solutions to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) while enhancing overall drivetrain efficiency:
Lower Final Drive Gear Ratio (FGR): Reduces the reduction ratio between the transmission and wheels to lower drivetrain noise.
Engine Crankshaft Damper Pulley: Reduces both torsional and bending vibrations, preventing engine rumble from reaching the cabin.
Centrifugal Pendulum Absorber (CPA): Applied to the new seven-speed rear-wheel-drive transmission to counteract rotational vibrations using opposing-phase forces.
P2 Reverse-Rotation Drive: The P2 motor rotates in reverse to handle backing up, eliminating dedicated reverse gear components to save weight, reduce friction, and boost efficiency. A higher first-gear ratio also improves off-the-line launch.
Hybrid-Specific Intelligent Features
Stay Mode: Uses the high-voltage hybrid battery to power climate control, infotainment, and electronics while stationary—no engine idling required.
Hierarchical Predictive Control (HPC): Analyzes route topography and navigation data to proactively optimize battery charge levels between EV, Hybrid, and Regenerative modes.
Smart Regenerative Braking: Automatically adjusts braking power using forward sensor distance and speed-camera data, minimizing pedal effort while maximizing energy recovery.

The exterior features an exclusive front grille design paired with new luxury wheel options. Inside, occupants are greeted by updated quilting patterns, two new real-wood trim choices, and four exclusive two-tone color palettes:
