Kia has officially announced the European debut of the all-new, second-generation Seltos. Positioned in the highly competitive C-SUV segment, this completely re-engineered model supports the brand’s transition towards electrified mobility in Europe.

While the new Seltos brings a bold "Opposites United" design language and a tech-heavy cabin, the primary engineering breakthroughs lie within its electrified mechanical updates. For the first time, Kia is disclosing the exact specifications of its new 1.6 Hybrid powertrain alongside the addition of its first-ever E-AWD system.

The New 1.6 Hybrid Powertrain: Specifications and Output Differences

The heart of the new European Seltos is its sophisticated 1.6-litre GDI Hybrid (HEV) engine, paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This hybrid variant enhances everyday usability and efficiency, and it will be offered as the sole powertrain choice in the UK.

Kia has optimized this new hybrid setup to offer two distinct power outputs based on the drivetrain configuration:

  • 2WD Version Output: Delivers 154 PS, routing power efficiently to the front wheels.

  • e-AWD Version Output: Achieves an increased system output of 178 PS, providing a direct performance advantage for drivers requiring extra power and capability.

EV-Derived Technology: Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) Integration

The all-new Seltos marks the first time that Kia has applied Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology to a hybrid model. Typically found strictly on fully electric vehicles (EVs), this innovative functionality allows external devices to be powered and charged directly from the vehicle's hybrid system.

This EV-inspired technology is complemented by features designed to maximize passenger comfort during stationary use. The inclusion of a new Stay Mode enhances cabin comfort for occupants by maintaining interior electronics and climate control during stationary use without unnecessary engine cycling.

Breakthrough Traction: Kia's First-Ever E-AWD System

For drivers demanding improved traction and handling, the second-generation Seltos stands as the first Kia model to be equipped with the e-AWD system (available on the HEV variant only).

This electronic all-wheel-drive system enables precise torque distribution across the axles, resulting in significantly improved traction and enhanced vehicle stability, even when operating near the handling limit.

Advanced Drivetrain and Braking Control:

  • Drive Mode Select: Drivers can seamlessly adapt the performance and traction characteristics of the hybrid system to different environments using Eco, Normal, and Sport modes.

  • Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0: The Seltos is the first hybrid vehicle within the Group to adopt this system. It automatically modulates vehicle deceleration to assist with stopping while maintaining a safe following distance to traffic ahead.

By combining these highly advanced electrified technologies with a re-engineered chassis, the second-generation Kia Seltos establishes a practical, versatile solution for everyday European driving. UK pricing, full line-up specifications, and local launch timelines are scheduled to be revealed later this year.
