Kia Vision Meta Turismo: Production Confirmed Once High-Performance EV Costs Drop

Kia has officially signaled a production future for the Vision Meta Turismo concept, positioning it as the high-performance flagship successor to the legendary V6-powered Stinger GT. While the project is strategically paused, Kia’s design leadership has confirmed that the "super-GT" will move from concept to showroom once manufacturing costs for high-performance electric vehicles (EVs) become viable.

Revealed to celebrate Kia’s 80th anniversary, the striking concept marks the debut of Opposites United: Evolution, a bold new design era for the brand.

The Road to Production: "90% Ready"

Despite being a concept, the Vision Meta Turismo is far from a mere design exercise. Design chief Karim Habib revealed to Autocar that the team has already developed a model that is 90% production-ready.

The primary hurdle isn't engineering, but economics. "At this point, it is more strategic," Habib explained. "The price of doing a high-performance EV is what is slowing us down. We are betting on the upward movement of EVs."

By waiting for the right market conditions, Kia aims to ensure this flagship remains accessible enough to honor the Stinger’s legacy of "attainable performance" while pushing the brand into a more premium electric space.

A Sports Sedan for the "Gamer Generation"

Kia is intentionally moving away from traditional sports car tropes. While the Stinger was defined by its mechanical roar, the Meta Turismo is designed for a digital-first audience.

  • Authentic Tech: Instead of simulating the past with fake gearboxes or engine noises, Kia is focusing on "authentic" EV experiences.

  • Gamer-Centric Interface: The cabin features a minimalist, tech-led approach with an interface inspired by gaming controllers.

  • Performance DNA: Despite the digital shift, the focus remains on "visceral" driving. The car sits on a dedicated new platform designed for rapid acceleration and high-speed stability.

Evolution of "Opposites United"

The Meta Turismo introduces the Evolution phase of Kia’s design language. This isn't a radical departure from the look of the EV6 or EV9, but a refinement focused on the user experience. Interior design head Jochen Paesen noted that as the market becomes saturated with EVs, emotional connection will be the ultimate differentiator. "We want people to see the car and think: 'Cool, I want to give that a go,'" Paesen said. This involves turning functional elements into aesthetics—retaining physical buttons where they make sense while using a minimalist layout to create a "lounge-like" atmosphere.

Looking Ahead: From Meta Turismo to EV1

While the Meta Turismo serves as the high-end "halo" car, its influence will trickle down quickly. The first production model to reflect the Evolution design language is expected to be a new electric city car—likely named the EV1—which is slated to go on sale by the end of 2027.

For enthusiasts, the message is clear: the Stinger isn't dead. It is simply evolving into a high-tech, high-performance electric flagship that Kia is ready to build the moment the numbers add up.
