The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced today a recall of over 200,000 Hyundai crossovers (178,685 Santa Fe and 26,548 Veracruz crossovers) all from the 2007 and 2008 model years. What happened? The Airbags that may not deploy in the event of an accident.

According to NHTSA, the clock spring contact assembly for the driver’s airbag may become damaged over time. NHTSA continues:

The driver’s airbag electrical circuit will experience a high resistance condition, potentially causing the driver’s airbag to not deploy.

Hyundai dealers will inspect and replace the faulty clock springs as necessary, with no cost to owners. The official recall is set to kick off later this month. Follow the jump for NHTSA’s full statement.
