One thing I have learned living in South Korea for the last 10 months is no matter where you go, there will always be speed demons. South Korea is no exception, and if anything, they take it extremely seriously.
[ads id=”0″ style=”float:left;padding:9px;”]I was recently added to the ranks of the Gyeongsan based drag team Wonted Racing & WedsSport Performance, many of their members have cars that run the “beta” engine platform, while there are a few Tuscani (Hyundai Tiburon), a K5, and my Optima.
Now, as a Soldier, many of the guys that are stationed here pick up a cheap “hoopty” or “beater” often for less than $1000. I’ve seen some of these cars go for as low as $20! What these Soldiers don’t know is there are gas guzzling, fire spitting versions of their same cars ripping the asphalt right off the road.
When I try to explain this to my friends, they don’t believe me. Then I show them the videos and they are speechless. We are talking sub-compact cars pushing over 600 horsepower at the wheels! I learned this the hard way when one of these rice rockets made my turbo Optima look like a Prius.
While I wasn’t able to attend this event due to training, I made sure I got full details and plenty of pictures for our dedicated TheKCB readers! Hope you enjoy, and stay tuned for Round 3 in Jeonnam where your’s truly will be racing!
