Hyundai is almost ready to reveal the IONIQ at the beginning of 2016. This will represent the second Hybrid Utility Vehicle model from Hyundai Motor Group company .

[ads id=”0″ style=”float:left;padding:9px;”]The car will be revealed in january 2016 in Korea, then make his European debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show and finish it on the New York International Car Show.

The difference between the current Hyundai/KIA Hybrid (for example the Sonata) and the upcoming IONIQ is the possbility to choose out of several drivetrains.
The IONIQ drivetrain will contain 3 options:

  • Full Electric Version (EV)
  • Hybrid Electric Version (HEV)
  • Plug-In Hybrid Version (PHEV)

This wide variety of drivetrains is unique for an Electric vehicle in the automobile sector.

The HEV and PHEV will (currently) recieve an 1.6 petrol engine and will probably be the same like the Kia Niro has. So it will be a 1.6 Kappa GDI which produce 105 PS and around 147 NM of torque with a 1.56 kWh lithium-polymer battery pack and 32 kW electric motor.

The name IONIQ comes from, ION for eletrical drivetrain and IQ for the intelligent engagement of Hyundai in the field of  alternative drivetrains.

Hyundai tries to establish his role as one of the leading car manufactures in alternative drivetrains, like the ix35 Fuel Cell, Sonata Hybrid and the Kia Soul EV.
