Despite the launch of the facelifted 2019 Kia Sorento at the recent Los Angeles AutoShow who has receive minor tweaks, powertrain & technology updates there are an interesting thing that is missing.
[ads id=”0″ style=”float:left;padding:6px;”]For the 2019 model, Kia has been discontinuated the 2.0 T-GDi engine. According to Kia and taking a look to the press release, they discountinuated due to a new powertrain strategy, but could be related to slow sales of this engine.
Some of you will criticize this movement, but Kia will change this variant for a diesel engine, which is under development, for the US-market. I’m pretty sure that this engine will be the known 2.2 CRDi from the R-Engine family delivering 200hp, with small changes, and using in-house’s 8-speed automatic transmission in order to have low emissions and a good fuel efficiency.
Kia quote:
“For MY19, the 2.0-liter turbo I-4 will no longer be offered as part of Sorento’s powertrain strategy. However, a new diesel engine with the latest emission controls is currently under development and more information is forthcoming.”
What do you think?
