At the end of July, of our colleague Kevin posted about the delay of both, the all-new Genesis GV80 SUV and the next generation of the G80 luxury sedan, should be arriving in Summer and finally will arrive later than expected in the US market, in fall. What we know so far?
Citing the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the summer 2020 arrival has been updated to fall 2020, meaning that we may not see these cars on dealer lots until the very end of this calendar year.
We’ve also seen photos of 2021 Genesis G80 and GV80 prototype models sitting at Hyundai Motor America facilities collecting dust, giving more evidence that the arrival of these cars has been delayed. This includes a matte gray GV80 and matte gray G80, along with other Genesis models such as a two-tone G90.
While both the G80 and GV80 are already on sale in Korea, apparently the logistics of launching a new car that’s built overseas and shipped to the US are more complicated during a global pandemic. This pushes the arrival of these models back three months for the US market.

The G80 and GV80 are the first two vehicles designed from the ground up with Genesis’ new design language in mind. The G80 is the third generation midsize, rear-drive based luxury sedan, that was first known as the Hyundai Genesis. The GV80 is Genesis’ first SUV, a rear-drive based crossover. Both vehicles offer the new 2.5L turbocharged four cylinder and 3.5L twin-turbo V6 options. They are also both priced starting just under $50,000 with high-end trims coming in just over $70,000.
Genesis dealers are still accepting reservations for both vehicles, but you’ll be lucky to get your car by the end of the year at this point.
