The two debut models from Genesis Motor Europe, the G80 sedan and GV80 SUV have both been awarded a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating in latest test. Hit the jump to watch all the details, pics and videos about the crash test.
The two models, which will go on sale later this summer, secured the maximum five-star rating from Euro NCAP, Europe’s leading independent safety testing organisation.
On 4 May, Genesis officially announced its plans for the European market, the home of premium luxury cars. The brand will commence European sales later this year, starting with Germany, the UK and Switzerland.
Against Euro NCAP’s criteria, both the Genesis G80 and GV80 all scored highly against the key NCA assessment areas: Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Vulnerable Road Users and Safety Assist. Notably, the areas of Adult Occupant Safety and Child Occupant Safety performed well during testing with scores of 91% and 87%.

In crash testing, Euro NCAP praised the impact stability and protection afforded by the passenger compartment of both G80 and GV80 during the side barrier test, with both cars scoring maximum points. G80 and GV80 also scored highly for child occupant protection. Seat and head restraint tests demonstrated good passenger protection against whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision, with the brand’s patented centre airbag scoring highly for helping to protect the driver and front passenger in the event of a side impact.
In the Safety Assist category, Euro NCAP recognized Genesis for its 20+ advanced driver safety systems; in particular, the Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Driver Attention Warning (DAW) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA) systems scored highly across the board. With 10 airbags, and over 20+ driver assistance systems, the Genesis G80 and GV80 offer impressive levels of driver-assistance technologies including High-Beam Assist (HBA), Blind-Spot View Monitor (BVM), Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Smart Cruise Control (SCC) and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning (RCCW).
Orders for Genesis’ luxury sedan, the G80, and its SUV, the GV80, will open in summer, with the G70 sports sedan and the GV70 urban SUV following soon after.
