Hyundai Motor Company has applied for a new patent related to the flip-dot grille, which is expected to be installed in future autonomous vehicles.
On the 13th, Carbuzz reported that Hyundai Motor hopes to use a unique grille to transmit information to other drivers and pedestrians, and has applied for a new patent related to this.
According to the media, the patent states that full-scale driving technology related to autonomous vehicles is being developed due to the development of autonomous driving technology. Research on the device and method is ongoing, he said.
The method devised by Hyundai is a ‘flip dot’ display configuration that often uses plates with different front and rear colors. The patented system uses a dotted plate over the grille to convey a simple message, such as ‘This vehicle is in autonomous driving mode’.
The patent includes a description of the control unit that transmits the signal, and the above message to be drawn can also be changed according to the driver’s intentions. In addition, it is said that it can be configured to work with turn signals.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Company is accelerating the development of future cars, such as applying for a patent related to the futuristic air conditioning system that can design the interior of a vehicle more neatly than before, as well as a patent for a steering wheel-integrated touch screen that replaces the existing dashboard.
