Revealed for the first time in March 2020, the South Korean carmaker is already preparing the Genesis G80 facelift, their third generation luxury sedan following first Hyundai Genesis model launched in 2008. Our colleagues at KindelAuto captured the US-spec model testing in California.
The updated Genesis G80 was captured heavily camouflaged so it is difficult to see differences. We cannot appreciate any bigger differences that affects any part of the design as this is probably in an early stage of development.
Talking about the powertrain, we don’t expect many changes compared to the currently line-up despite a small fine-tuning and adding the 3.5-liter engine with the electric supercharger. It is unknown whether the diesel engine will carry on or will be discontinued.
As for the inside, looking at the spy video you will see a new widescreen that probably will be the same confirmed to its SUV brother, the GV80, that will premiere a 27-inch OLED display. You can bet Genesis will apply some updates to the interior as well as the latest safety and tech features including on demand features.
Will take the risk Genesis to add Autonomous Level 3 in the G80? It is difficult to know when Genesis plans to release this facelift but we don’t expect it before Summer 2024 in South Korea, with European and US-spec models arriving by end of 2024.
Despite the world is no longer facing a semiconductor shortage, Genesis like other HMG brands is still struggling to delivery some of its line-up so it is difficult to predict if these schedules will be fulfilled. It looks like some of the orders will be delivered as a refreshed model if that situation does not get better during 2023.
What do you expect about the updated G80?
