Hyundai wants to show us that they still believe in sedans as they’re planning to unveil both the updated Elantra and Sonata models for the North American market.

Back in July, Hyundai announced their 2024 model year line-up and informed that it will reveal more information about the updated Sonata and Elantra models in late summer. The day is tomorrow and despite we already know the updated models from their Korean-spec, there could be some surprises.

We recently spied a prototype of the Sonata, with the sticker “Limited” and the badge “HTRAC”. In the vehicle, a specs sheet was found and said that prototype were using a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with All-Wheel Drive and 8-speed automatic transmission. It will be the first time that Sonata has all-wheel drive capability.

An all-wheel-drive Sonata should helped Sonata to fight across an increase number of AWD saloons (like Subaru Legacy, Nissan Altima or Toyota Camry) and looks like Hyundai plans to take advantage from the facelift to add it finally. The sticker on the prototype showed this AWD system will use a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine and a 8-speed automatic transmission.

What do you think about the possibility of a Sonata AWD, or it’s too late?

Talking about the updated Elantra, it is expected that the N-Line model to be discontinued as they only talk about regular Elantra, Elantra Hybrid and Elantra N. Currently, Hyundai discontinued the 1.6 Turbo N-Line model in South Korea and made the N-Line trim available with Hybrid and 2.0 NA models, so let’s see. Both models will feature a bolder, more modern look plus state-of-the-art tech upgrades.
