Kia recently held its ‘EV Day’ where released EV3 and EV4 concepts, EV5 and also talked about the EV2, a model that will be built in Europe.
According to a conversation of UK magazine Autocar with Kia’s CEO Mr. Song, said producing affordable EVs is “very important” for the brand, “especially for the European market that is in need of smaller electric vehicles too”.
Song said the EV2 is a “very unique and important model for the European market”, adding: “This is a smaller size of EV, a very European-style dedicated model.” He said Kia has a “very concrete plan” for the machine.
The EV2 will be the smallest in Kia’s all electric line-up. In fact, it seems likely that this new model will replace both the discontinued Rio and Stonic. Currently, the entry model in Europe and Korea is the compact car Picanto.
With the launch of EV2, it appears that there are no plans for the time being to develop a Picanto-sized compact EV1. What attracts attention about the EV2 is that it will be priced in the $25,000 range (around 23,000€).
Kia should give more details in the time coming ahead model’s debut beyond its name, but confirmed it will be a compact model (not confirmed if SUV or hatchback) designed with a focus on the European market and manufactured at Kia’s plant in Slovakia. There are still no pictures or mules in the road.
