We already spied thanks to our colleagues at SH Proshot KIA Tasman UTE, the body-on-frame, dual-cab upcoming pickup and also Kia Australia already confirmed that it will be called Tasman. Today we have new information that probably won’t be liked by the customers that are waiting for.

A Glimpse into the Future: The Tasman Prototype

The Tasman prototype was seen braving the cold alongside a Ford Ranger Raptor, suggesting that while the Raptor might not be its primary competitor, the Ford Ranger certainly is. The Tasman’s design is distinctly boxy with commendable ground clearance, indicating its readiness for off-road adventures. Notably, the prototype also featured built-in steps at the back of the bed, enhancing accessibility and functionality.

Engine Options: Enough Power?

Kia seems unsure about the success of the Tasman if you look at its line-up. At launch, only one engine will be available and will be a four cylinder. The already known 2.2 CRDi diesel engine with a total output of 200 hp will be the only possibility for buyers. Kia said will add Hybrid powertrain in the future. If you compare it with its rivals, such as Ford Ranger or Toyota Hilux, both have a 3.0 V6 diesel as well as other V6 gasoline options. What do you think?

Targeting the Titans: Ranger and HiLux in Sight

The Tasman isn’t just targeting the Ford Ranger; it’s also setting its sights on the Toyota HiLux, one of the most popular pickups globally. It will need a versatile engine range if they want to fight hand-to-hand with the mentioned Ranger.

Global Ambitions: Production and Availability

Kia plans to produce the Tasman in volumes ranging from 120,000 to 130,000 units annually, indicating the company’s confidence in its global appeal. The Tasman will be available not only in Kia’s home market but also in key overseas territories such as North America, Europe, and Australia, making it a truly global contender in the pickup truck segment.

The Kia Tasman represents a bold step for Kia into the competitive pickup truck market. With its strong engine options, functional design, and global market strategy, the Tasman is poised to become a noteworthy option for truck enthusiasts and professionals alike. As more details emerge, the anticipation for this groundbreaking model only grows, setting the stage for what could be one of the most significant vehicle launches in the coming years.

Stay tuned for more updates as Kia prepares to officially unveil the Tasman, a vehicle that promises to redefine expectations and elevate the pickup truck experience.
