Genesis is gearing up for the mass production of its flagship electric SUV, the Genesis GV90, slated for launch in the first quarter of 2026. The GV90 first prototype will be built in October, while the current test vehicles are test mules, this will be the first prototype with the final design.

Genesis GV90: A New Era for Electric SUVs

The Genesis GV90, under the project name “JG1”, is set to become the latest addition to Hyundai’s premium lineup. The automaker plans to produce the first prototype model for mass production in October. This prototype marks a major milestone, transitioning from the earlier test mules seen on roads to a vehicle designed for full-scale production.

The GV90’s design has already piqued interest, thanks to the Neorun concept. Unveiled earlier this year, the Neorun concept offers a glimpse into the future design language of Genesis. With its minimalist approach and innovative features like the ‘B-pillarless coach door’, the GV90 is poised to set new standards in the luxury electric SUV market.

Production and Testing Timeline

Hyundai Motor Group plans to conduct extensive testing on the GV90 prototypes over the next year and a half. These tests will include evaluations of driving performance, durability, and other quality assessments in various conditions both domestically and internationally. This rigorous testing process will ensure that the GV90 meets the high standards expected of the Genesis brand.

The GV90 will be mass-produced at Hyundai’s new electric vehicle factory in Ulsan, which is set to be completed by March 2026. This factory is Hyundai’s first new domestic production facility in nearly three decades, reflecting the company’s significant investment in the future of electric mobility. With an annual production target of 20,000 to 30,000 units, the GV90 is expected to become a key player in the global EV market.

A New Platform for a New Generation

The GV90 will be the first model to utilize Hyundai’s second-generation electric vehicle platform, known as ‘eM’. This platform represents a significant evolution from the current E-GMP platform, which primarily supports medium-sized SUVs. The eM platform is designed to accommodate a broader range of vehicle types, from small cars to super-large SUVs, pickup trucks, and top-tier Genesis models.

Hyundai Motor Group has ambitious plans for the eM platform, aiming to develop 13 different types of passenger electric vehicles by 2030. This includes four models from Hyundai, four from Kia, and five from Genesis. The eM platform is also expected to feature advanced battery technology, including 5th generation NCM (Nickel, Cobalt, Manganese) batteries, high-efficiency motors, and AI-based battery management systems that enhance safety and performance.

Conclusion

The Genesis GV90 is not just another electric vehicle; it represents Hyundai Motor Group’s vision for the future of luxury electric mobility. With its cutting-edge design, advanced technology, and the new eM platform, the GV90 is set to become a benchmark in the electric SUV segment. As Hyundai prepares for its launch in 2026, the automotive world eagerly anticipates the arrival of this groundbreaking vehicle.
