Hyundai is gearing up to introduce the IONIQ 5 XRT model to the North American market and a new prototype was captured in Korea and posted at AutoSpy. This new prototype confirmed some features as the E-Terrain thanks to a sticker attached to the test vehicle.
Spotted: The New IONIQ 5 XRT Prototype
The IONIQ 5 XRT prototypes were captured in full camouflage, but several key details have emerged. Notably, the prototype features repositioned parking sensors on the front bumper and a completely redesigned rear bumper. The front bumper also showcases subtle differences in its lower section. A peek through the side windows reveals a fully camouflaged interior, suggesting that Hyundai is planning significant interior updates as part of this facelift.
These prototypes were spotted near the Hyundai-Kia Technical Center, with one prototype testing on rugged wheels. Despite the camouflage, it was clear that the vehicle’s design is still in the early stages of development, with no major differences immediately noticeable.

What’s New Under the Hood?
The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 facelift introduces several notable upgrades under the hood and beyond. The most significant change is the increase in battery capacity from 77.4 kWh to 84 kWh, which results in an improved driving range, though specific mileage gains haven’t been fully detailed yet. This upgrade is expected to extend the vehicle’s appeal, particularly for those seeking longer journeys on a single charge.
Interior Upgrades: A Tech-Savvy Cabin
The interior of the facelifted model features several enhancements aimed at improving usability and comfort. Key updates include the addition of more physical buttons for frequently used functions, a repositioned wireless charging pad for better accessibility, and a redesigned steering wheel with interactive pixel lights. A new ccNC infotainment, climate control layout have been refined for easier operation, and the vehicle now includes an improved connected car navigation system with Over-the-Air (OTA) updates, ensuring the software remains current.
IONIQ 5 XRT: Rugged Design for the Adventurous
The XRT variant stands out with its rugged design cues. A recently spotted prototype in South Korea revealed roof rails, black wheels with a rugged design, all-terrain tires, and a unique pixel pattern on the side and front cladding. Additionally, the XRT features a new pixel LED light front bar, adding to its distinctive appearance. These elements suggest that Hyundai is targeting customers who desire a more adventurous and off-road-capable version of the IONIQ 5.
