Hyundai Motor Company recently release its premium electric SUV, with plans to launch high-performance IONIQ 9 N and off-road-specialized versions IONIQ 9 XRT. This could be the biggest and heaviest Hyundai N model ever.
Two Special Projects in Development
Simon Loasby, Hyundai’s newly appointed Head of Design, revealed during the IONIQ 9 unveiling event that the company is actively exploring these special editions. “We are working on two distinct projects—N and XRT—apart from the standard lineup,” Loasby stated. “Every new vehicle development includes consideration for these unique models.”
IONIQ 9 N: Setting a New Benchmark in Electric Performance
The high-performance IONIQ 9 N is generating considerable buzz, building on the success of Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 N. Lauded for redefining high-performance EVs, the IONIQ 5 N comes equipped with an 84 kWh battery and dual motors, delivering an impressive 478 kW (approximately 650 horsepower) and 770 Nm of torque. Its rapid acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds makes it a standout in the market.
Industry experts anticipate the IONIQ 9 N to surpass these benchmarks. Currently, the top-tier “Performance” version of the IONIQ 9 offers 320 kW of power and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. The N model is expected to take on competitors like the BMW iX M50, setting new standards for electric SUVs with enhanced speed, power, and agility.
IONIQ 9 XRT: Targeting Off-Road Enthusiasts
Hyundai is also considering the XRT model, designed to cater to consumers seeking adventure-ready vehicles. This move reflects Hyundai’s ambition to expand beyond traditional luxury SUV markets and attract a broader customer base that values rugged capabilities alongside premium features.
Simon Loasby emphasized this strategic diversification, saying, “Each model will serve a unique purpose, like pieces on a chessboard. This approach will further differentiate our portfolio.”
Expanding Hyundai’s Vision in the EV Market
With the IONIQ 9 N and XRT under active development, Hyundai is setting its sights on leading the premium electric SUV market. These innovations not only enhance Hyundai’s reputation for cutting-edge EV technology but also expand its appeal to a diverse range of customers—from performance enthusiasts to off-road adventurers.
The launch of these models is expected to solidify Hyundai’s position as a major player in the global EV market, challenging premium competitors while offering innovative, customer-centric solutions.
