Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) has announced its second production vehicle: the 2026 IONIQ 9, an all-electric, three-row SUV. This cutting-edge model will mark the first all-new Hyundai vehicle assembled at the state-of-the-art Metaplant, further solidifying Hyundai’s commitment to electric vehicle innovation and U.S. manufacturing.
Pioneering EV Production at the Metaplant
The announcement follows news from June about the 2025 IONIQ 5, an updated version of Hyundai’s award-winning electric vehicle, as the first production vehicle at the Metaplant. With the IONIQ 9, HMGMA is doubling down on its electric lineup. Production of the IONIQ 9 is slated to begin in Q1 2025, with the SUV hitting the market in Q2.
Oscar Kwon, CEO of HMGMA, expressed his excitement:
“We are thrilled to start building the all-new IONIQ 9 at the Metaplant. Every new vehicle we build brings an enhanced level of excitement for our Meta Pros, but to see the expansion of the acclaimed IONIQ lineup being manufactured locally is particularly special. As the only facility to build IONIQ 9s in North America, our Meta Pros will take pride in knowing every time they see the vehicle on the roadway in the U.S. that they took part in it being made.”
The Reveal: AutoMobility LA and Beyond
The IONIQ 9 was unveiled today at AutoMobility LA 2024 in Los Angeles, alongside a simultaneous reveal by HMGMA at AutoNation Hyundai Savannah. Adding to the excitement, Meta Pros who contributed to the assembly of the preproduction vehicle were on-site to celebrate the launch.
Eligibility for Federal Tax Credit
Thanks to its U.S.-based assembly and battery sourcing, the 2026 IONIQ 9 is expected to qualify for the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit, making it an attractive option for eco-conscious buyers.
