Genesis Magma Racing has officially revealed the GMR-001 Hypercar and its full team identity, signaling the brand’s serious commitment to global motorsport. The announcement, made ahead of the 2025 New York International Auto Show, establishes Genesis’ competitive intent as it prepares for entry into the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2026 and the IMSA SportsCar Championship in 2027.
GMR-001 Hypercar: Design, Performance, and Purpose
The GMR-001 Hypercar showcases Genesis’ “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy applied to top-tier racing. Developed in collaboration with ORECA Motorsport, the GMR-001 features a hybrid powertrain and an aerodynamically optimized chassis designed to meet the demands of endurance racing.
Signature design elements include Genesis’ Two-Line lighting, parabolic body contours, and integrated air inlets for thermal efficiency. The car was styled under the direction of Luc Donckerwolke at Genesis Design Europe, reinforcing brand consistency while maximizing racing performance.
“The GMR-001 Hypercar is a sculpture shaped by function—performance and efficiency—while staying true to the Genesis DNA,” said Donckerwolke.
Livery Design: Cultural Identity in Motion
The GMR-001 livery incorporates “Magma orange,” a vibrant tone representing Korean energy and innovation. Hangeul characters spelling “Magma” (마그마) are subtly embedded into the design, offering a visual reference to Korean heritage while enhancing brand identity.
The color gradient—transitioning from bright orange at the nose to deep red at the tail—visually mimics rising heat and engine acoustics under acceleration, invoking the Doppler effect.

Race Suits and Driver Lineup
The team’s race suits mirror the Hypercar’s visual identity, integrating Genesis’ Two-Line motif and G-Matrix graphics. Drivers André Lotterer, a three-time Le Mans winner, and Pipo Derani, a four-time Sebring champion, lead the racing roster.
“This is more than a suit—it’s a symbol of Genesis’ commitment to performance and design,” said Lotterer.
Competitive Debut and Roadmap
Genesis Magma Racing’s competitive rollout began in the 2025 European Le Mans Series (ELMS) with an LMP2 entry. Partnering with IDEC Sport, the team won on debut at the 4 Hours of Barcelona, with drivers Jamie Chadwick, Mathys Jaubert, and Daniel Juncadella.
This ELMS campaign, supported by Hyundai Motorsport, forms the foundation for Genesis’ 2026 WEC debut and 2027 IMSA participation. The Genesis Magma Racing Trajectory Program also plays a key role, identifying and developing future racing talent.
From Track to Road: Innovation Pipeline
The GMR-001 Hypercar is more than a race car—it’s a proving ground for the Magma sub-brand. Insights gained in racing will inform future Genesis performance vehicles, especially in hybrid efficiency, durability, and thermal management.
Genesis’ entry into motorsport marks a strategic move to align its design-led brand values with high-performance engineering. The GMR-001 Hypercar and accompanying motorsport program exemplify this transition.
The vehicle will be on display at the Genesis booth at the 2025 New York International Auto Show, open to the public from April 18 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
