For the first time since 2012, there appeared a new car into the South Korean market that passed the 10,000 units mark in monthly sales. The lucky car? The Hyundai Sonata.
[ads id=”0″ style=”float:left;padding:9px;”] According to the automobile industry on May 5, the official sales of the new Sonata LF totaled 11,904 units in April 2014. If adding those of old Sonata, the sales of Sonata brand models totaled 15,392 units.
This was the first time for a single model to pass the 10,000 level in monthly sales since Avante MD (also known as Elantra in overseas markets) was sold 10,059 units in March 2012.
Considering the aggressive marketing and diversification of import cars and the stagnating consumer sentiment, it has been considered very difficult for a single model to achieve the 10,000 monthly sales mark. The emergence of a model with a 10,000 monthly sales record, is interpreted that the domestic car market is regaining vigor again.
Since import car brands made full-fledged strides into the Korean market in 2000, six models achieved such records at 55 times. These models include Avante, Sonata, Grandeur (Hyundai Motor), Morning, K5 (Kia Motors), and Rezzo (GM Korea).
Avante came on top with 25 times, followed by Sonata with 18 times, Grandeur and Morning each with five times, and Rezzo and K5 each with once.
