The Genesis GV70, located between Tucson and Santa Fe, will have coupe-style SUV silhouette rather than the GV80 according to the latest spy shots taken near the Nürburgring but inside is going to have the same design as its big brother according to the picture above that shows the same interior layout and “rugby ball” steering wheel.

What we know so far?

We have known about the three-SUV family thanks to an image that was sent out during the announcement of the New Year’s Day by Hyundai Group Vice President of Hyundai Motors Group. He said, “Genesis will accelerate overseas expansion in China and Europe, and will aggressively expand its line-up including the first SUV model launched this year to strengthen global brand power.”

While the bigger GV80 is aiming for the Mercedes GLE, the BMW X5 and the Audi Q7 the smaller GV70 will go after the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC.

Engine line-up is going to be shared with the GV80, so it will use the new family of Theta III (2.5-liter T-GDi with 304 hp) and Lambda III (3.5-liter T-GDi with 380 hp) gasoline engines and probably the Smartstream Diesel 3.0-liter V6. All of this engines will be matted to a 8-speed automatic transmission.

Returning to the pic showcased at HMG event, the shape of the bonnet, the roof, and the side mirrors, as well as the size of the body are different on the three SUVs. The model’s bonnet at the left end emphasizes smoothness while the model at the right end has a clear bend and string.

This can be interpreted as a result of Genesis’s design philosophy, “Athletic Elegance.” “If the G80 has a 50:50 ratio of elegance and dynamics, the G70 has 70% dynamic and 30% elegance,” said Lee Sang-yeop, who is responsible of Genesis styling. So we expect that the Genesis GV70 will follow what we have seen on the G70 and has more sport ratio.

As Genesis plans to introduce the GV80 by the end of this year (finally introduced on January 2020) followed by the GV70 (will arrive in the third quarter of 2020), another model on the left-hand side can not be ruled out as Genesis’s flagship SUV, the so-called ‘GV90’.
