Hyundai Motor is going to introduce a large number of new 3rd generation platform-based cars & SUVs this year. Starting with the new Sonata (DN8), which was introduced last year, the new generation Avante (CN7), Santa Fe part change (TM PE), and the new Tucson (NX4), which are scheduled to be released in April.

From Genesis side, the recently launched GV80 will open a new era, followed by the GV70 and a new G90 in 2021. There are a new SUV and CUV that we don’t know which brand corresponds. All of this new cars will not only reduce cost but also improve drive performance, technology and increases safety.

Hyundai Motor reduced the number of platforms from 10 in 2005 to 6 by applying the first-generation platform in 2008. In 2013, the 2nd generation platform used 6 platforms: small sedan, medium sedan, large sedan, compact car, SUV and coupe. This 3rd generation platform will be applied to compact cars and high-end rear-wheel drive vehicles.

There are 6 types of 3rd generation platform: light vehicles, small-medium vehicles, medium-large vehicles, medium-sized rear-wheel drive vehicles, large rear-wheel drive vehicles, and compact cars. The 3rd generation platform is a next-generation platform that can accommodate not only internal combustion engines, but also future vehicles such as battery electric vehicles that can apply large-capacity battery packs.

The 3rd generation platform is optimized for the improved smart stream powertrain with lower underbody and lighter weight, thereby increasing the efficiency of the entire model lineup. In addition, the weight of the vehicle body is reduced by 55kg through a lightweight, high-rigidity design, and the average rigidity is increased by 10% to increase driving performance, fuel economy, and collision safety. The new platform can achieve the effect of reducing the development cost through component sharing.

The 3rd generation platform has four characteristics: design, energy efficiency, fun to drive, and safety. First of all, through the design-friendly platform, the height of the body and bonnet can be lowered for a low and wide proportion. Through this, the center of gravity is lowered to improve driving performance and design completion.

In particular, it is easy to expand various derivative models based on a common platform, so you can operate a variety of new cars at a low cost. In the case of Santa Fe, a large change such as a new platform was predicted in the partial change model.
