Today we have a new set of spy pictures of the Genesis eG80 electric vehicle spotted yesterday at the Oksan Service Area in Busan on the Gyeongbu Expressway during charging time and together with Kia Bongo 3 EV commercial truck, thanks to Motorgraph.

The test vehicle is completely covered by the camouflage. However, through the dish-type 19-inch wheel, quad-lamp, and crest grille, you can quickly recognize that this car is the Genesis G80. What is unusual is that the vehicle hood is opened and the quick charger is connected to the engine room. It seems likely that the positioning of the charging connector has not been finalized, or it may be a test mule with a G80 chassis.

There are claims that Genesis is preparing a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model, but the vehicle is more likely to be a pure electric vehicle. This is because PHEV does not currently support the rapid charging function. The charger in the rest area where the test vehicle was observed is also a rapid charging standard.

Hyundai Motor Group has announced the establishment of 14 electric vehicle lineups by 2025. The Genesis brand is slated to launch its first electric vehicle in 2021, which was confirmed once again in a recent Hyundai Motor’s 1Q conference call. In addition, it plans to start full-scale electrification of the Genesis Genesis lineup from 2024.

Major foreigners predicted that the mass production model of the concept car ‘Mint’, which was unveiled in New York in 2019, will be Genesis’ first electric vehicle. However, as the test vehicle based on the G80 was witnessed, it is estimated that two or more electric vehicles are being prepared.
