We could be ahead of an inminent announcement about the new strategy of Genesis and its European subsidiary, Genesis Motor Europe. According to brand’s LinkedIn account, where they published two pictures of GV80 & G80 together as well as G80 alone taken in Frankfurt with german plates, “new beginning is not far away”.

Genesis, which had a bitter taste on the European stage due to sluggish sales in the past (with only one vehicle in its line-up), is planning to re-introduce the brand to the European market first with the compact sedan G70, G70 Shooting brake, G80, as well as with new SUVs, the GV70 and GV80.
The G70 facelift, which was unveiled by Genesis at the end of the year, will add a new shooting brake (wagon) model as early as the first half of 2021. Unlike the South Korean market that prefers sedans and SUVs, the G70 wagon, classified as a strategic model for targeting the European relaunch, is a model tailored to the tastes of European consumers who value practicality and driving performance using a wide loading space.

The G70 wagon, which will challenge competing models such as the BMW 3-series Touring, Mercedes C-Class wagon, and Audi A4 Avant, is equipped with Genesis’ two-row lamp family look design and three gasoline and diesel powertrains.

The partially modified G70, which was unveiled in Korea last month, introduced the same 2-liter, 3.3-liter gasoline turbo engine and 2.2-liter diesel specifications as before, but no information on the installed powertrain was known for the export model.
It is known that export models will also be released with the same powertrain as domestic specifications, but local media including Germany are predicting the possibility of launching new gasoline turbo engines with Smartstream 2.5-litre and 3.5-litre specifications installed in Stinger and G80. It is argued that Genesis, which has to play fierce competition as a latecomer, will increase its competitiveness by applying the latest powertrain to export models.
Genesis, which has experienced failure due to the lack of a simple line-up and a local strategic model in the past, plans to re-challenge the European stage during 2021 with the launch of the GV70, which is expected to be available in the second half of 2021 together with a diverse line-up including forementioned G70 range, G80 sedan and GV80 full size SUV.
There’s no word yet on pricing for the new G70 – or even how Genesis models will be sold in the UK, but expect a separate approach to Hyundai and Kia with its own network of Genesis retailers. Details on the European Genesis range, retail concept and unique service offering will be announced soon.
