According to AutoHerald, the South Korean carmaker have applied for “IONE” trademark at the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) of Argentina. We visited the website and found that the trademark was settled presented on March 23rd.

So, looking at the INPI website, we can see that Hyundai Motor Company registered the IONE trademark and could use it in passenger cars, vans, or trucks. Looks like they applied as many automotive things as possible. But looking closely to the IONE name, you can realize it is similar to the company’s electric vehicle sub-brand IONIQ. It also has another meaning like the name of a California city, part of famous video-game Animal Crossing

It is unknown what is the purpose for this trademark applied by Hyundai. However, and according to the news source, it is unlikely that the IONE nameplate could be used in electric passenger cars. Hyundai wants to launch up to eleven new electric vehicles by 2030, including three sedans, six SUVs, and one light commercial vehicle.

IONIQ sub-brand upcoming vehicles are the IONIQ 6 sedan, set to debut in July, and the IONIQ 7 large SUV which is scheduled for 2024. It could also be used as a new type of eco-friendly car brand such as hydrogen electric vehicle line-up.

The last option that comes to us is that Hyundai use it as for the same purpose as the high-performance internal combustion engine N-brand. For example, just like a wordplay and then IONE means IO = IONIQ, N is from N and E from Electric. What do you think?

Prototype of IONIQ 5 N, could use IONE as new high performance electric brand name?
