After we have seen the first leaked pictures of Kia Motors’ smallest city car, the Picanto facelift (also known as Morning in South Korea and some overseas markets), today Kia Motors has released the Picanto facelift on its local market, so we have a glimpse of what Europe will receive.

The Morning Urban (the way they called in South Korea) now has a ‘Tiger Nose’ radiator grill with a semi-glossy chrome pattern rim and a three-dimensional effect. A new eight unique shaped LED daytime running lights (DRL) surrounding the projection headlamp while the new front bumper looks hard in shape with an angled chrome-rimmed decorative fog lamp.

The rear part has a new rear combination lamps that adds a three-dimensional effect. The horizontal design is wide and the new bumper includes a new design for reverse lights as well as a chrome dual muffler garnish (fake exhaust I know).

Kia Motors has applied a variety of advanced driver assistance systems to the Morning Urban to the highest level in its class, greatly enhancing safety and city driving convenience, like BCA (Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LFA) and Driver Attention Warning (DAW).

Inside, Kia newly applied the driver’s seat ventilation along heated seats availble for driver and passenger and also applied ‘4.2-inch color cluster’ and a new ‘8-inch navigation’, which improved visibility with a wide screen and latest connectivity through UVO. UVO can control the vehicle remotely, such as door opening / locking, air conditioning control or navigation automatic wireless update that automatically updates the map by connecting the car via OTA.

On the other hand, Morning Urban is equipped with an improved ‘SmartStream G 1.0 engine’, which has a maximum output of 76 hp (PS) and a maximum torque of 9.7 kgf · m, and has a combined fuel efficiency of 15.7 km / ℓ with the best fuel efficiency in its class.

Kia Motor Europe’s chief operating officer, Emilio Herrera, recently suggested that the Picanto EV will have to happen “sooner or later”. The all-electric Picanto has to happen not only because of the tougher European emission standards, but also to stay competitive in the “city” car segment. VW, Renault and Peugeot are all on the brink of releasing small electric cars in Europe.
