There were many twists and turns until the third generation of the Genesis G80 was released. Originally, it should have been released in the 3rd quarter of last year, but the GV80 became a priority and the release schedule have changed and were released by the end of March. But that’s not all, according to the industry sources, the eG80, Genesis first Electric Vehicle have speed up and left G80 Sport in the gutter.

What we said that? At the ‘Korea New Deal’ National Reporting Contest held at the Blue House on the 14th of July, Hyundai Motor Group’s Vice Chairman Euisun Chung made an announcement. “We will focus on developing next-generation electric vehicles and sell 1 million electric vehicles by 2025.” He said.

It is aiming to become a global leader by rapidly jumping into the electric vehicle market, which the world is drawing attention. Vice Chairman Chung added, “I look forward to seeing three electric cars with Hyundai brand in the next year, and we are planning to release the top brand Genesis electric car.”

Genesis’ first derivation electric vehicle is expected to be the G80. It was reported that the reason for the delay in the launch of the G80 Sports was also due to the internal policy of producing and selling electric vehicles. According to insiders, Hyundai Motor’s Ulsan Plant 5, which produces the G80, plans to enter the G80 electric vehicle or eG80 to the production line during the Chuseok holiday (1st of October).

After the final test during the fourth quarter of this year, the G80 electric vehicle is expected to be released in the first half of next year. It has been reported that a small number of test cars are already assembled and undergoing road tests. Let’s now check the spy pictures and we will explain what the eG80 prototype differentiate from regular G80.

The first is that the large Crest grille at the front is completely covered by the camouflage. When testing the regular G80 gasoline or diesel engine, Hyundai did not use a camouflage covering the grille as shown in the photo. The air intake of the bumper, which is slightly visible below the headlamp, is also shown to be blocked.

The second is that the electric vehicle-specific wheels that this prototype wears are not found in the existing G80, even not the G80 Sport. The wheel applied to the test car is estimated to be 19 inches, and since it is a new design that cannot be seen in the existing G80, it can be expected that it is a dedicated specification applied only to electric vehicles. In addition, the Genesis emblem is also engraved in the center of the wheel.

The third is that there’s no muffler exposed to the outside or any type of exhaust system. The G80 electric vehicle test car that was captured earlier this year was not much different from the internal combustion engine test cars, but the recently captured test car can be seen that the muffler is removed and now completely covered with camouflage.

The first EV to be launched under the Genesis brand, the eG80, has already been trademarked on September 11th, last year. In addition to the G80, the G70, G90, and GV80, and the upcoming GV70 and GV90, they also applied for the trademark registration of the electric vehicle version.

The G80 electric vehicle, which Hyundai has considered to be important enough to postpone the G80 Sport, which is almost finished, is expected to be an electric vehicle that can replace the internal combustion engine based on a fast charging time and boasts a mileage of at least 500km.
